well..."better" is not saying much...but watch. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXEFVvWYJ2c[/ame]
Botha's a warrior thats real. That dude got his ass kicked in the K1 many a time. But he didnt give up. He fought some of the best names there. Looked alot more comfortable on his back there than Toney showing some good technique against a solid Judoka until he literally gave him the armbar.
Botha, like Toney, is past it, old and fat but like Butterbean he gave it a much more legit go then Toney did. It was fun supporting Toney while it lasted but I had huge doubts after checking his weight, training vids and I spotted that his camp was lying about him choking Mo out.
The UFC lied with their photoshopped pic. The whole event was a farce. Toney went there for a pay day and that was it. He done a great job promoting the fight though.
True. The UFC must have hoped that Toney would be around that shape by the time he fought but he got in no better shape then he would for boxing.
It was a career weight. Toney was just as heavy for his bout with Rahman some years back. He didnt even try and get in shape. He went there for a pay day and that was it. I guess it was reciprocal though. Toney got 3/4 of a mil and the UFC got a load of PR off the back of a tubby 42 year old IBA champion. One minute............ BWA HA HA HA HA
Botha had the sense and respect for MMA to actually train for it - you can see in this video that he's spent some time properly training for ground fighting- not long enough, and at too late an hour in his fighting career - but a far more worthy effort than Toney. I'd put money on Botha to win against any of the top heavyweight boxers out there today - in an MMA fight
That's money you'd most likely lose. Credit to Botha for trying to branch out, but he'd never actually vouch to go to the ground unless he was forced too. In the event say Butterbean and Both entered a Mixed Martial Arts ring, you'd probably just see a Boxing match. That goes for any other Boxers, too.
I'm not so sure - Botha even started trying to throw the low kick when he was competing in K1. Whether he would use any MMA or kickboxing skills or not though, he definitely has at least a very limited form of those tools, which I do maintain would be enough to give him the edge.
Well it's not important enough to debate over, I just don't feel Botha has the kind of kicks to truly separate himself from any other Heavyweight Boxer looking to translate into Mixed Martial Arts. If he and Toney fought MMA, it'd most likely just be a boxing match, Botha may throw a kick here and there, but they wouldn't be terribly impressive or make much of an impression I shouldn't imagine.
