Most people see to forget that Matthysse vs Alexander was a Title Eliminator and supposed to be 12 rounds but 1 or 2 days before the fight Don King had it changed to 10 rounds so Alexander would get ktfo in the Championship rounds
Like the fight, these test results stink worse than Denmark at low tide... http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/boxing-mma/doubts-raised-over-claims-that-francois-botha-tested-positive-to-a-banned-substance-following-sonny-bill-williams-fight/story-fndeeomn-1226574876533
To be fair though, I agree with Irishny, SBW did better than I thought he would against an opponent who's experience outweighed him by a ton. He showed good fundamentals, even though Botha threw **** all punches in the first half. I remember thinking though before the bout, what are his handlers thinking with throwing him into a 12 round or even 10 round match against an a seasoned (but past it) opponent. Sonny ain't even been past 6 rounds.
I reckon I know who magna is. Based on hints he's dropped over time there's only one I can think of who fits in anyways. If it's who I think it's someone I might have been critical about in the past but hopefully in a respectful way :good
-Although the bout between Sonny Bill Williams and Frans Botha was clearly being billed as a twelve rounder as recently as Fridays weigh-in, Williams maintains via Twitter that he and Botha both knew it was a 10 rounder. Bizarrely, Bothas promoter Tinus Strydom backed up Williams side of the story, telling ABC News that he was indeed informed that the fight was reduced to a ten rounder shortly before the fight, but he never bothered to pass this information along to his fighter.- If this is true than it's just a lack of communication.
I've been torn to shreds around here more than once. Roll with the punches; Even Ali gets hate. If you feel the need to be critical, be critical. Somehow, some way, I'll be all right.
I met Botha in Big Bear when he was training to fight Lewis. Very nice man. Shame that Pepe Correa (I think that was his trainer) was out to get him killed. The fight plan was ****. My friend and I left, ran out and bet on Lewis. Horrible fight plan and, unfortunately, Botha executed it flawlessly.
I don't get how everyone is so impressed with Botha when he lost probably 8 out of 10 rounds to a complete novice?
I don't think everyone is "impressed" with his abilities right now. He is freaking 44 years old. His peak performance in the ring was arguably 17 years ago. He's just a good dude who was a really good fighter at one point.
