This might be of interest, you dont run to get fit. You get fit to run :D.

If people spent as much time working on their skills and movement as they spent mindlessly running then they wouldn't even need to be fit. The best use less energy, there's no point having a massive gas tank if you leak gas with poor/wasted movement. There's a good reason why James Toney could easily go 12 rounds despite being nowhere near athletic shape. To get fit for boxing he boxed, crazy concept huh?

James Toney will be remembered, as a great middleweight, when He was Fit. Although in later years His experience held Him in good stead, with good matchmaking, He wasnt the same Fighter He was when He was young and fit.

Define 'fit'? He seemed to do pretty well at heavy and cruiser despite carrying excess body fat and being the much naturally smaller guy. As a middleweight he was the same guy who shunned roadwork and focused on actually boxing.

Obviously nobody is the same when they move from middleweight to heavyweight :patsch
The point is that he had no problem with his stamina as an overweight heavyweight who did no roadwork.

But He did, there was nothing wrong with His skill factor though. He was just slower so Heavy suited Him, being a skilled operator at the level He Boxed.

Not to put words in anyone's mouth. But either way you look at it, James Toney's stamina later in his career was pretty impressive, for his size, and for how little he worked towards it. Sure he wasn't the same, but he was still world class. I don't often try to emulate many boxers' style, but we can all learn something from James Toney.

Great, doesn't change the point that he was plenty fit enough for what he was doing.
