I don't think the williams or Mcbride fights should factor into the equation. At that point it was comparable to Ali vs Berbick
Right. If I had found discernible merit in what you wrote subsequent to the quote I referenced, I would have addressed them. When someone is only off a bit I might attempt to fill in their gaps. When they get it so far wrong, which often happens when guys weren't watching the era as it happened, it is better to leave that work to others.
He still had enough to beat the limited Mercer. Whats Mercer known for? not punch power, not skill, his CHIN, thats right, his chin.
Exactly. That is frankly an absurd example. I can't imagine seriously offering it or thinking that would be a sustainable point. I just do not find any merit in any of this. No one WINs fights by intimidation. The only way it would be a factor is if it were two school kids saying "I'll be waiting for you after school and I'm gonna beat your ass" and one of the kids didn't show up. I've seen guys who were certain they were going to destroy the other and so did everyone else. Then it was discovered that that guy actually didn't know how to fight at all. Guess what? He got wrecked. Reputation does not win fights. Fighting wins fights. "I was not impressed with him or Mike Tyson in their fights...." Really. That's unequivocally dismissive. Nothing impressive at all about these fights or fighter's performances, eh? So in the years leading up to these two fights in '91, This content is protected in let's say '87 or '88 or '89 or '90 or '91?
true but the pattern was set and quitting in the face of defiant opposition was a mind-set previously employed but I agree the body was not the same
I was very impressed with Mike Tyson in the way he KO'd the guys that were waltzing with each other, the Berbicks, the Tubbs, Holmes,Spinks even the guys that just held on to survive but did not really try to win Smith (turned bone-crusher into Boneclutcher) Tucker, Green,Tillis but Buster after the loss of his Mom had one fight that he actually fought to win and got up to fight back and Tyson fizzled then Evander showed zero intimidation and mind you in his last fight Evander struggled to get a stop over former middleweight Bobby Cyz. I still love Tyson as a force of offensive danger but also recognize his weakness in the face of heart and obstinate adversary (BIG BALLS)
Tyson fanboys are a laughable bunch of cretins that's for sure. They are trying to elevate a NOTHING special fighter with one punch the " smash " to a level he could only ever dream of. The first fight was a dreadful result, necessitating the rematch, and still Tyson couldn't dispose of the easy to hit Ruddock. 18 months later Lewis did it inside 2 rounds. After Tyson the Canadian went on to have 15 fights losing only 2 both to guys who could seriously hit. So please spare us the Tyson softened him up bull****. Then they tell us their hero would have stopped the iron chinned McCall despite being totally unable to move him in the gym. The numpty NEVER went easy in sparring, encouraged by his trainers who needed to constantly massage his fragile ego. Still it is entertaining to read the schoolgirl type hero worship these freaks bestow on the lowlife garbage.
I appreciate the response but I don't really get it as an answer to my question: So in the years leading up to these two fights in '91, This content is protected in let's say '87 or '88 or '89 or '90 or '91? My point being that if you found no aspects in the Tyson/Ruddock fights impressive which heavyweight fights between '87 and '91 (doesn't need to be Tyson) were ones in which you were impressed? Just want to go back and look and compare and see how the Tyson/Ruddock fights had nothing impressive going on and these other fights did.
I liked the way Lennox dispatched Rudduck but that was in 92. Before that I was impressed with Evander KO Buster Douglas in 1990. I already told you about the Tyson fights I was impressed with Holmes KO4, Berbick KO2, Thomas,Tubbs,Williams and Holyfield KO Thomas It was a very weak division but Evander,Lewis and Tyson were bright lights
The early 90's are generally acknowledged as being one of the stronger eras of the heavyweight division
despite those bright lights I mentioned who made it strong? A lot of guys were past it or 2nd tier guys but the late 80 were weaker
