Their ultimate strategy was reached when Bowe was told to ditch his belt in the garbage can.

I think this interview pretty much sums up why they didn't fight, albeit because of some managerial dance moves by Rock Newman...many people (mainly lennox fans and brits) swear Riddick throwing the belt in the trash was him saying he was terrified of fighting Lewis as opposed to them trying to make a statement about the WBC. Boxing is a business first and foremost, those who don't see it as such are the ones getting robbed or not making any money.

On a side note, once fighters reach a certain level of making millions per fight, the thought of a huge paycheck they can get from fighting a good, well known opponent normally outweighs any "fear" they may have towards that person. Bowe may very well have had a chip on his shoulder from The Olympics, but Lewis was in no way superior to a prime Bowe skill wise/power wise...he was willing to fight him.

Rock Newman had some good intentions but he thought he was bigger than he was, and he assumed Bowe was going to be champion for ever. This led to over-confidence on Bowe's part too.

    LOL
Bowe and Newman affirming that Bowe would never fight Lewis

6:05 interesting to say Bowes thinking - Telling Mercer to have an easier opponent that Fergusson to keep their fight safe - Seems pretty obvious they felt Lewis was far too dangerous for Bowe.

Also intersting to see the bull**** spouting from Bowes mouth that he wont fight if the WBC is involved then 2 years later fights Donald for a WBC belt.

You forgot... Bowe signed to fight WBC beltholder Lewis in December of '94 on HBO. $18million to Lewis, $12million to Bowe was the purses. Then Oliver McCall spoiled the fun, ruining a Superfight of epic proportions, by stopping Lennox by TKO2. I'm sure the McCall fight was planned as just a easy tune-up against a very limited & crude, but tough guy. :-(

Newman is right about the WBC being the corrupt Don King belt back then.

Donald was highly ranked in the WBO, that led to his title shot against Hide.
Its pretty clear and exactly what Ive said all along, that it was more of a ploy to avoid King, because if Bowe had to face King fighters with all his titles, you can bet he would have gotten a bogus decision, just like Lewis did against Holyfield, when King gained the same type of control over the IBF.
And Lewis faced ALL King fighters before and after losing and winning the WBC title.

Yeah But Bowe fought Donald for the WBC Continental Americas title.......But wouldnt fight Lewis if he was affilliated with the WBC.

Just how much evidence do you need that Bowe was avoiding Lewis.

Bowe even showed the methodology of his camp by stating Mercer shouldnt have took a dangerous opponent and should of took an easy one

    Are you kidding me? :nut

Bowe fought Donald in December of '94, when he was signed to fight Lewis!

...But, Lewis had lost by a upsetting early stoppage to McCall in September '94, so Bowe-Lewis was ruined & cancelled.

Check the Boxing Monthly issues for '94... Bowe-Lewis was signed.

    :lol::rofl:lol::rofl:lol::patsch

Bowe would out-brawl & out-box the incredibly limited McCall all night long with ease.

Riddick is super durable, so no lucky eyes-closed punch will end it.
