Bowe to return?
Former undisputed heavyweight champ featured on Klitschko-Rahman card
By Wolfgang Schiffbauer
After numerous false starts, 41-year-old former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe will apparently return to the ring against a opponent to be named. "Big Daddy" Bowe will be featured on the undercard of the big Wladimir Klitschko/Hasim Rahman card on December 13 at the SAP-Arena in Mannheim, Germany. Bowe (42-1), who suffered his only career loss against living legend Evander Hoylfield in a 1993 thriller, last fought in 2005, beating journeyman Billy Zumbrun. The former champ is best known for his incredible trilogy with Holyfield, which still ranks up as one of the best in the history of the sport. In 1992, Bowe became undisputed champion by beating "The Real Deal" in one of the greatest heavyweight fights the world has ever seen. After losing the crown, both met in a rubber match in 1995. Bowe won by tKo after being floored himself in another war. After two exciting battles against then-prospect Andrew Golota, both won by DQ caused by repeated low blows, one ending in a Madison Square Garden melee, "Big Daddy" retired in 1996. His comeback started in 2004 but since beating Zumbrun in '05, Bowe has not fought as a professional. "I'm glad to box professionally again," said Bowe, who is training in Germany and was ringside for Vitali Klitschko's destruction of Samuel Peter in Berlin last month. "I feel that I have some big fights left in me and I wanna get one more shot at a world title."

Yes, he did have a fight scheduled against Hungarian Heavyweight Champion Zoltan Petransky, but pulled a no show. He has also had plans of fighting several other fighters this year, but canceled those as well. Maybe it was just one other fight against Rocky Phillips...:huh I don't remember, but at least that one other fight. Time will tell if he is going to actually fight this time.

He's seriously punch drunk. He needs to call it a day. No point tarnishing his reputation with losses when he's shot.

Ugh, this again?

It's not going to happen. Every few months or so, some paper makes an announcement, "Bowe to come back?" and then we see the fight scheduled on boxrec and wait and maybe we'll see an interview where a barely understandable Riddick Bowe will say how he's coming back and this time it's serious and he's gonna knock everyone out. And then nothing's going to happen, fight will get cancelled and Bowe goes back to doing...whatever it is he does

Bowe has no buisness in boxing. He is getting close to being a vegetable.

He's had 5 fights fall through since his April 2005 debacle against Zumbrun.

March 2006 - Micky Steeds
October 2006 - George Linberger
Aug 2007 - Paul 'Rocky' Phillips
Sept 2007 - Mikael Lindblad
Sept 2008 - Zoltan Petranyi

Either this will be number six, or Very Big Daddy really will be back.

When guys like Holyfield get title shots for bugger-all, no wonder he wants to as well. If the old man upsets Valuev Bowe will probably be clamouring for a fourth go-around.

Hate to say it, but I would still watch this if it happened, despite the sad facts.

i think it was this site had an article on wili fischer a couple of weeks ago and how fischer was coming back and how he had been working out with bowe. fishcer said some complimentary things about bowe (and vice versa), but there was a photo of the two also. bowe looked horrible (tho he was working out), not just overweight, but even facially alot different than he looked even vs zumbrun

Yeah it was ESB, and I think it was last week, but anyway, yeah, he looked pretty rough. Still, in my top 2 favorite fighters of all time. Hope he finds happiness.

Doesn't he have a new wife and little girl now? Gotta feed the family somehow I suppose, and I respect him for that.

It's on the BBC website as well see:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7740680.stm

That doesn't make it gospel but they don't have a big boxing section and don't normally publish rumors......it's their first story about Bowe since 05............ says an opponent has yet to be established.
