    Two of my favorite fights.

Many people remember them for being brutal, very dirty with two disqualifications and Bowe being dominated and of course the big riot in New York after the first fight with inexplicable absence of police.

However, you rarely see it mentioned as an upset because the former mentioned elements probably eclipse this - but they are big upsets nonetheless. Golota was seen as a stay-busy fight untill Bowe could make a big fight with Tyson or win the title back. Bowe had just avenged his career lone defeat by stopping Holyfield in eight rounds. He expected Golota to be "finished within two, three rounds"; he stated this himself in an interview afterwards.
Golota turned out to dominate Bwe but many blamed it on Bowe's bad conditioning (252 pounds). They have a rematch and at 235 pounds, the same weight in which he took the title from Holyfield in impressive fashion. But again he was dominated and again Golota imploded.

Does anyone have odds either of the fights, particularly the first one ?

The second fight should have been stopped, Golota was absolutely punishing Bowe.

That last round Bowe hurt Golota.... definately shouldn't have been stopped. No more that 15 seconds after Bowe hurt Golota with the overhand right then Golota did the low blow combo from hell..... Golota couldn't take it when he had a guy in front of him that wouldn't go down.

Btw that 235 Bowe was in the second fight definately isn't comparable to the Holyfield fight, he had a lot less muscle and look out of shape still....

i think the main reason is id doesnt matter what wieght your at it's how your body is at that wieght.

even though bowe was lighter for he 2nd he was not rounded and had sweated it off it's not the way to train toney did that and look at him now he thrives on wantoing to eat becuase he doesnt stay low

They cant be seen as upsets because regardless of how well Golota did he still lost.

It's easy to beat a man up when your strategy is to continuously blast him in the genitalia.

You think that's why Bowe got beaten so effortlessly?

I'll see if I can find the odds anywhere, but I remember before the first fight that most people seemed to think Bowe would just whallop Golota in about 5 rounds or so.

A reasonable exlanation if you believe that Bowe's genitalia reside in his head...

Bowe landed that big right at about 1:20 of the 9th. I'll have to check the exact timing on my copy of the fight, because it's not listed on Boxrec, but I'm pretty certain it was more like 45 seconds, not 15.

I managed to scrape this up - Vegas odds for Bowe-Golota II as of Oct 30th 1996. About a month-and-a-half off the actual event though so there could've been a fair amount of change, but at this point they were :

    Golota +210
    Bowe -270

Wonder if they mention the odds on the fight footage...another reason for me to check it.

The funny thing about that first fight was how Bowe's corner went ape **** after the stoppage. They were upset by the low blows??? Those low blows saved his title, further punishment to his head, etc, They should have been grateful. I would guess that these two fights caused Bowe's brain damage. BTW. His "comeback" was supposed to be held right up the street from where I live in Northern KY (it was postponed last month). I was conflicted on whether to go see what could be a pathetic show.
