Bowe vs Golota I & II: underrated as upsets?

Yes, now some lucky people in Sweden will get to see him plod around against an 8-8 guy...I don't think it would've been much of a spectacle for you either which way.

Checking my copy of Bowe-Golota II...

Bowe's big right while trapped in the corner, which definitely hurts Golota and makes him step back, was at 1:22.

But within a couple seconds, both guys resume fighting at close quarters and, while Bowe lands some good shots, Golota lands several more heavy blows than that and continues to boss the fight like little happened.

The low blow combo that ends the fight actually lands with just 8 seconds left in the round. So there were about 74 seconds between Bowe's big right and Golota's fight-ending low blows, not just 15 or so, during which Golota was continuing to land more of the heavy stuff.

So I definitely refute that Golota was seriously buzzed by that big right and immediately fouled out in a panic.

More than anything, as I see it again, I think both guys were having problems keeping their arms up. They looked damn tired.

 

Both matches are hands down very underrated and remembered much more for the negative fallout. An unfair label.

 

Golota was a huge mistake on the part of Bowe's management.

I think Bowe was already past his best but those fights ruined him.
If Bowe had been preserved a little longer maybe they could have got him a fight with Tyson, or old Foreman , or a 4th fight with Holyfield: All of which he might well have won.

 

Golota that showed up for these two fights is also underrated, regardless of Bowe's condition

 

Yes, Golota was not seen as a threat before the first Bowe fight.

He showed he was a very good fighter.

If not for the fouls, he would have won both fights

The second fight should have been stopped in his favor. Bowe was staggering all over the place, taking heavy punishment. Only his immense heart kept him going. Bowe won the battle but badly lost the war.

 

The second fight almost needed a British referee.

 

Haha good one
