Does anyone find this fight as dramatic and as engrossing as I do? It's true, for most part, it's Golota beating the livin' **** out of Bowe but it's often forgotten that Bowe did have some big moments. He scored a heavy knockdown, and caused a huge gash over Golota's eye, whilst landing a lot of Heavy shots of his own. There's seldom been a bigger showing of courage than this one on the part of Bowe. He could have quit much earlier. I know I would have. It was a slugfest, brutal, and met with a controversial and dramatic ending. I love this fight, one of my favorites.

    Opinions?

I used to feel much the same way. For a few years after the fight happened it held a kind of morbid fascination for me, and I watched it multiple times in awe of the sheer brutality of the bout and the stubborn courage of Bowe.

Not anymore though. Knowing the damage done and all, I tend to avoid watching it.

Everyone says Golota owned Bowe but thats not really the case, it was a real war and Golota fouled Bowe just as he was starting to come on a bit, in my opinion.
He knew Bowe would tough it out to the last and Bowe was starting to get to him a bit more.

Golota is praised so much because it was the first time someone besides Holyfield had fought on even terms with him and there were no good super-heavyweights around then.

Edit: Actually I cant remember if it was the first or second fight Im thinking of, but IMO Golota was starting to lose in one of them until he fouled out.

    I don't like the fight.

The Bowe corner should've stopped that bout between rounds and had numerous chances during some rounds to throw in the towel. Why they aren't held accountable is one of the real rotten parts of the sport & Bowe did not need to be slurring at such an early age. Look at the problems Riddick has had > boxing & it should never ever have been that way. Avoidable, so avoidable. Actually, they must've noticed he wasn't sharp or the same guy during training and should've been watching over their fighter's health as priority #1 when that bell rang. Or pulled out of the fight. A good corner==caring about their fighter==stops it when Bowe was knocked down.

To me, it's downright criminal what happened and just what are those guys there for and what are they paid to do anyway? Anyone can hold a spitbucket & a professional has to make tough calls and judgements regardless of whether it is going to diminish their own future income.

A very sad fight. Yet we enjoy watching it for the same reason we like watching big explosions and crashes in movies.

Bowe had trimmed down to his 1992 weight, but all of the sudden weight fluctuations caught up with him. His reflexes were completely off. But he still gave Golota a tough fight and refused to quit.

It's funny how some people here claim Bowe was a "coward" or "chicken" for the Lennox Lewis/WBC situation in 92-93. But no coward would be able to gut himself through such a brutal fight.

Bowe was no coward between the ropes, just out of them he didnt want to risk his reputation in the US to some Limey from some place he never heard of

I watched a lot of that fight on youtube today, it's extremelly sad! It should have been stopped very very early, and instead we just watch a man get physically and later we find out mentally damaged.

This fight is truly horrible to watch.

Bowe got down to his 92 weight but he looked to have wasted muscle to do so.He was frail looking and I think this feebleness is what partly led to the severity of his beating.

I mean for ****s sake,Golota had a 70%+ connect ratio which is unheard of at the elite level.Bowe was never a defensive specialist but these are the figures of a man who can no longer defend himself.

Yeah Bowe dropped Golota but aside from that and the fouling out he got destroyed. If Bowe's corner cared about him they'd have stopped it a couple of rounds earlier because it was obvious this was life threatening punishment he was taking.

I disliked Bowe but to this day I get choked up thinking about the beating he went through and what it did to him.

    A sad,sorry fight.

Bit horrific but not quite Oscar-Pac. Bowe has his moments.

Against a top, top fighter that night he probably would've been SERIOUSLY injured. Not just ****ed up. What a shame he fought fairly recently.

Bowe vs Golota II was twice as brutal as Oscar-Pac, McLovin'.

...And twice as exciting, dramatic, and engrossing. What a fight.

What I mean is, that at least Bowe tried to fight back, as ****ed as he was.

And stop calling me McLovin, it genuinely grates:yep

No doubt it's a damn good fight though. Just a shame as a few years earlier Bowe woulda smashed Golota into oblivion :deal

Extremely brutal fight, but those two bouts are among my favorites. Not to say Bowe had it coming or deserved it, but for all those years, Bowe fought very dirty and he got some of his own medicine there. But indeed, 70% connect rates are sicking. His corner should've stopped the fight in the 5th. Arguably even in the 2nd, when Bowe was pounded for a full minute on the ropes, until Golota threw a blatant headbutt which bought Riddick time he desperately needed.

I don't think it would've prevented the sad state that he is in today, though. Much of the damage was already done by his weight yoyo-ing and the fact that he always took a lot of punches. Plus, he's the kind of guy who takes a lot of punishment in sparring just to prove his toughness. His candle was burning on both ends, and in the middle when a fridge was near.

    ??

Yea Golota was just a journey man. A top fighter would have killed Bowe.

Bowe got beat from pillar to post in that fight, not much more to it.

Fight should have been stopped well before the DQ.

Golota was a huge talent, if only he had his head screwed on right.
