Newman was also responsible for Bowe missing out on a number of big fights. He basically burned a lot of bridges with his crazy antics, unreasonable demands, reneging on agreements etc, and once Bowe lost the title, he was kind of frozen out. Frank Maloney (as he was then) said in his autobiography he was praying Holyfield would beat Bowe, because it would mean he didn't have to deal with Newman. Had Holy beaten Bowe in '92, Holy v Lewis would probably have been signed and sealed within a few weeks.

I highly, respectfully recommend you read the rest of the messages on this topic for a full explanation that goes beyond the Wiki article on that subject.

Neither Riddick nor Rock Newman believed Riddick could EVER beat Lennox. Newman admitted that one night in Dallas. It was after Bowe had dumped the WBC belt in the garbage can. Rock said to me "Dont you want the world champ's autograph" I'd had a few beers so answered " He's not the champ until he fights and beats Lewis" Rock said " why risk it all against Lewis when Dokes & Ferguson will make as much $$$$$$$$$ with very little risk" I said " Well then Bowe will never really be the champ then will he" Rock just waved the belts & said " But we got these aint we " & Bowe just walked away.

ROFLMAO Golota was beating the **** out of Bowe in both fights till he went crazy started t6he low blows. The ONLY chance Bowe had against Lennox was right when he was contracted to fight him but he saw what Lennox did to Ruddock & renaged on the deal. He was in shape then he never got in top shape again. Bowe was scared of Lennox

If Bowe wouldnt do it for Papa Smurf he wouldnt do it for anyone Eddie said Bowe lacked the heart & couldnt drag himself away from the table, he would NEVER have beaten Lennox

If you remember no one wanted Bowe after the Olympics Rock was a rocknroll promoter had no experience in boxing. He took him on he got him to the final foursome deal Bowe -Holyfield &
Lewis-Ruddock with the two winners meeting next to determine the real champion. Well Lennox destroyed Ruddock & scared Rock & Bowe to death they avoided Lennox like he had the Plague lol . Lennox ALWAYS had Bowes number

My pick is Lewis, for nothing other than he was the disciplined fighter, always looked in good shape, for the most part, Bowe struck me a lazy, undisciplined fighter, didnt look after himself , or so it appeared.
I see it going late, poss around 10/11 rounds, with Bowe becoming more, and more despondent. maybe even looking for a way out.

Having been there and having tried to deal with Newman and having heard what others in that scene said of him and Bowe, everything CJ says rings true.

Bowe was talented, talented enough to beat Lewis on the right night. But Lewis was quite a bit more talented. It was a losing equation for Bowe and Newman.
