When Bowe was focused he was a helluva fighter, big, rangy, good combinations, good power and a really good inside game. But to be honest I always felt he was afraid to face Lennox Which was a shame because while I think Lennox would have won Bowe certainly would have been a great match up for him and on any given night Bowe when on his game could have upset Lewis.
For me, Bowe is one of those examples of a fighter turning off his own fans. Usually you are a believer for good but Bowe is unique, I was a huge fan at one stage but he lost my favour and you hear that a lot.
Lewis clearly got the better of him, and it clearly scared the daylights out of him, as he threw a belt in the trash rather than have a rematch in the pros.
Same here, I was a fan and then his lack of discipline, gluttony, and Rock Newman just made me lose all interest with him.
Totally agree. Bowe was the Andy Ruiz of his day: very talented (in theory), but seemingly totally unwilling to do the work needed to maximise it. It's not that he didn't have the ability to beat Lewis; he didn't have the ability to apply himself to get into the shape needed to give him a chance to do so. Dedicating yourself to your craft is part of the equation of being a champion; it's not a factor which can be raised to make an argument in his defense: 'If he had have worked harder he would have beaten anyone' is meaningless (train properly, then) and he threw the belt in the bin because that was easier to do than getting in shape. Always the path of least resistance. Watching that video informed me this: Lewis is very comfortable with his career and Bowe remains resentful. That's on him...
if golota, who ruined bowe, twice, even with out the ball shots, could do that, what would lewis have done to him?
I loved Bowe, he was a better offensive fighter than Lewis though that didn't necessarily make him a better boxer, not sure who would have won either but i was of the opinion Bowe & his team didn't want the match, two big men who could really fight, they've finally made amends.
