Bowe was ultimately undisciplined, sloppy and as Saad54 said, didn't hit as hard, nor was he as strong as Foreman....and how did Bowe deal with frustration? He would surely be frustrated all night vs Young. Jimmy would upset his timing, have him off balance and would do his usual thing vs a big, strong heavyweight. With honest judges, I see this as a 10-5 decision for Jimmy Young.
Bowe struggled with nearly every boxer he fought, guys Tyson blew away with ease. Even Holyfield, when he actually decided to box and not brawl beat Bowe Bowe struggled with Tubbs, Biggs, Golota and Thomas. All guys Tyson wiped the floor with. I'm not sure how Bowe dealt with frustration, but you have to remember the Mathis Jr fight. Mathis Jr, was a slippery customer and if I remember correctly, Bowe punched him while he was down and should really have been disqualified. Bowe would probably get the decision, purely based on popularity but Young would make him look real bad.
It took him nearly 7 rounds to KO Glass jaw bum Herbie Hide. The same Hide who won the first two rounds.
That's what they said about Young vs Foreman. After the folly of being fed to Earnie Shavers in his 11th pro bout, NO ONE was gonna blow out Jimmy Young,...not even when he was basically shot vs Gerry ****ey.
Young did beat a certain brawler. A guy called George Foreman, whom many people consider the hardest puncher of all time. Not saying that a Young win is a given, but to claim that a big brawler would always beat him is a bit silly.
Exactly...that was the type Jimmy specialized in beating, whether he got the decision or not,...right @Boxed Ears, if you're out there, rustling the leaves somewhere?
Foreman wasn't as good at mixing it on the inside and was slow as molasses (what are they actually, are they even slow?) Young has to fight Bowe inside and no way ok earth does he survive that situation. Bowe by slaughter. Maybe 5 rounds.
I think Bowe would beat Young. A young and tenacious Big Daddy would put lot's of continuous pressure on Jimmy while hurting him with big shots and unlike Foreman would have the stamina to do it over the full distance.. He might even manage to score a stoppage.
And it was an OLD Tony Tubbs too. A prime Young, circa 1975-77,could well outbox Bowe over the distance.
