The more i think about it..Most fighters go through there career having 2-5 wars(if that) but it seems all of big bobs have been fairly brutal fights...Man i really hope he has made some decent dosh out of this because his body must be ****ed up... I honestly can think of 10plus fights where bob (even in victory) has been pretty messd up...I personally thought he should of hung the gloves up after the Rob Calloway fight.. That was a brutal affair..Especially for big bob.
Yeah I agree hopefully he gives it away now, I know he has completely priced himself out of the couple of fights that are left in Oz for him and no one OS would want him with his age and last 5 fights. As far as Bowie goes everyone was bagging him saying he had done the dirty on Johnny by moving stateside but it was perfect timing IMO. At that stage there was a big jump from the guys he was fighting and the next level here even just by experience, it is hard for people to remember because the landscape has changed dramatically in the Heavies in Oz in the last 18mths, but Bowie racked up all those wins in a pretty quick amount of time and I believe he only put on a pair of gloves a couple of mths before his first fight. Good luck to him he is still very young and has freakish genetics:good
Definitely best of luck to him, would love to see him make it onto bigger and better things down the track. At the same time though, will be very difficult to do. Freakish genetics or not, it will be very hard to overcome the skill differential when it comes to the crunch. A lot of those upperlevel gatekeepers even, have been boxing their entire lives, and would just have a massive advantage over him in terms of experience and skill. Will be very hard to overcome i think.
Yeah good call will be interesting to see his progression from here, Cisse Salif is capable and is a big mofo, and I am sure he is picking up his skills with J.mayweather at the steering wheel:thumbsup
A nice mayweather. Paradox? Floyd Sr may have a brilliant boxing mind, but i absolutely cannot stand the guy. His corner advice is just rubbish IMO, he pretty much swears and yells incoherently.
Jeff couldn't be more different to the rest of them if he tried. He runs a great gym out of Vegas, which I've visited and has all the time in the world for the fans. That being said, so did Floyd Snr, when I caught up with him.
Fair enough... Maybe Sr just plays up the persona for the media, to keep himself in the spotlight. How big were some of the gyms over there? What calibre of fighters did you get to see training? I remember you saying you saw Imbragimov doing a bit of sparring, which was pretty brutal. Did you get to see any other world class fighters training in any open workouts?? Or do they keep most of those type of sessions closed from the public except for special occasions??
I must say Jeff was terrible in Ibrogimov's corner when he lost to Wlad he completely choked and Sultan was on his Pat Malone.
He may well do. Who knows what's going through that brain of his. I went to a heap of gyms. The famous Johnny Toco's, Mayweather's gym and the Top Rank gym. That's in Vegas. Got along to Gleeson's Gym in Brooklyn too. The gyms are massive and are light years ahead of what we've got IMO. I was really lucky to get into Top Rank. Had to beg. ha ha. Ibragimov is a beast in the gym. He blasted some fat overweight kid, like I mean REALLY hurt him. Ronald Johnson is a Light Heavy prospect that I saw sparring. Looked pretty good, and I keep tabs on him. A bit inactive of late. Caught up with the likes of Oscar, Tommy Hearns, Mike McCallum, Kassim Ouma, Jermain Taylor, Howard Eastman, Joey Gamache and Eddie Mustapha Muhammad on my travels. It was a great trip.
i was at the tutaki fight and i have to agree.. hes very hittable..hes going to struggle when he comes up against people who fight back.. tutaki was even starting to frustrate him, had he hung in there another round or two it could have been a very different result..
Hey Ippy, what do you mean by light years ahead, obviously they have better quality sparring and more fighters etc. But is that what you mean or do they have facilities that we dont have? If so , what?
G'day Joe. Better coaching, better equipment, far better sparring, and every gym has a lot more space.
