Mixed am/pro card, there's been two hours of the former already; I think we're down to brass tacks now.

Rough translation of Arrezo Notizie's article on their meeting in 2018:

Success with a special dedication to Fiordigiglio. Lezzi passed on points

Orlando Fiordigiglio returns to the ring of Castiglion Fiorentino , where it all began. Opponent Francesco Lezzi , the first after four months from the last match in which the boxer from Arezzo was involved. In front of an audience made up mostly of fans and Fiordigiglio fans, who had not returned to the ring in Arezzo for almost three years, the boxer from Arezzo took a strong part among the ovations of the home spectators.

The first recovery is clearly in favor of Fiordigiglio who remains mainly in the center of the ring looking for the right opening. At the end of the second round the boxer from Arezzo puts Lezzi in serious difficulty, who falters but does not give up. The Apulian remains on the defensive and comes out only when Dino gives him the opportunity (in a few cases) which in the meantime reaches Lezzi in the face. The Apulian was trying to put Fiordigiglio in difficulty, but he also closed the fifth round ahead. The verdict at the end of the sixth round leaves no room for surprises: Fiordigiglio wins on points .

" It was not easy against an opponent like this thinking to win by knockout - he said after the meeting Fiordigiglio - okay , well . Back in Castiglione Fiorentino was a great feeling . If I have a dedication ? I have two for two people who are no longer there like my grandmother and Alvaro Semoli " .

    HOLY SHIT!

Bologna walks out with this song, and there's PYROTECHNICS built into the ring's corner posts, going off the whole time:

Uh-oh...seems like Quarneti might be the much better fighter here. Certainly fleeter of hand and foot and more accurate in the first minute, popping off flurries and having Bologna looking uglier than pimento loaf. :ohno

(the graphic is really confusing; they list Quarneti as wearing red and blue for Bologna...which is true, of their gloves. Bologna is also wearing blue trunks, but Quarneti's are white)

    10-9 Quarneti.

Think a very hyperactive Malignaggi. Bologna was totally mystified by all the movement and punches, barely got anything off himself.

That's more like it! Bologna started to slip the jab with some head movement while marching Quarneti down, stalking him and forcing the issue with his 1-2. Quarneti hurt a few times, floundering against the ropes and then launching himself off them headlong into Bologna to clinch. Bologna's right cross, when he can uncork it at proper range, is the most effective punch through six minutes of action. Quarneti still banking on volume, feather-dusting all over from Bologna's waist to chin while dancing around him in tight spirals.

    One apiece. 19-19.

Bologna showing off an uppercut now, has Quarneti rattled and on the run leaving behind some weak caltrop flurries. Chases him into a corner and plops a quick overhand right on the crown. Nothing to do but clinch for the speedster, as his evasive maneuvers wind up just wasting energy with Bologna constantly harrying and cutting the ring off. Bologna getting aggravated by Quarneti grabbing and wrenching down on his arms, looking at the ref for assistance. Mumbled warnings, but still a ton of wrestling let slide in the last minute.

    29-28 Bologna

WHOA! Quarneti rushes out gangbusters, bringing the fight to Bologna with his own series of hard overhand rights. Maybe knows he lost two rounds clearly of the first three and needs a KO?

(incidentally, between them, neither has ever registered a stoppage in three bouts)

They brawl in the middle of the ring, lots of misses and deflections off the clavicle and parrying fists, but a good amount of leather being landed both ways as well. The pace slows down inevitably, and they clutch each other by the back with a single hand while uppercutting with the other. Bologna the slightly more comfortable with the infighting and cleaner with his punches. Now they step halfway apart, Bologna digging in with sidewinding body shots. Quarneti tries answering in kind but is getting the wind knocked from him before he can finish pulling trigger on most.

Hell of a round to cap off a nice (professional) show opener.

Judges scored it a draw. Eh, fair. Either that or 39-37 to Bologna depending on the swing fourth would be the correct verdict.

One thing's clear, though: he's no phony baloney :D (Quarneti's no fugazi himself)
