Nietes is spending most of the frame jogging to his left, sitting low in mid-stride, leaning aside, ensuring with his every gesture that Alejo fans the air while attacking. Nietes is throwing fewer power counters, now, however, and virtually none in combination. Nietes is content to do most of his work now with the jab, maybe taking a breather. Alejo wings a right from across the ring and grazes below Nietes' ear, bypassing his glove slightly.

Nietes is jabbing and circling to his right. Alejo is cutting the ring off and getting jumped into, Nietes colliding and drilling his bicep into Alejo's side. They clinch repeatedly as this pattern repeats, Alejo throwing punches over Nietes' back. Nietes steps outside and lands a sharp 1-2. Alejo nods respectfully and keeps lurching in with his own jab even as he gets impaled on straight counters.

Round 11

Nietes is strafing either way a few steps and then jabbing the body and switching directions. Alejo is falling in and throwing wide hooks at the body, then clapping his right arm down across Nietes' back. Alejo lunges forward, left knee bent, arms up over his face, looking to get in position to work the body - and is caught by a hard quick double jab from Nietes, splitting his well-positioned gloves apart.

Round 12

Nietes is jabbing high, into the underside of Alejo's upheld wrists, then catapulting up from a moving crouch with a flush right hand lead. Alejo is stepping in with a left hook lead and is jolted still with a chest jab. 1-2 by Nietes. Alejo winds in a right hand on the body, roundhouse, grazing. Stiff counter jab by Nietes. Another jab by Nietes hopping to his left, throwing in midair, still landing flush. Nietes still very quick and compact with his punching even with twenty seconds left. Alejo is going for broke, windmilling and missing from outside.

Huh. Weird. That means he fought in almost 7x as many amateur bouts as Jason.


...and from his style he seems more like he fought in 400 Toughman contests. :yep

Faultless performance. The only room to improve would be getting the knockout and I think you have to kill Alejo to get that.

 

I just checked, and Pinky Alejo has actually been stopped before, twice - but at the hands of the same guy both times, and both were at flyweight, in Alejo's first couple of fights, back in 2009.

Of course, he was pretty untested heading in tonight and didn't have any notable victories (except for knocking out a shopworn Erik Ramirez, twice, and stopping a capable journeyman in José Guadalupe Martínez to become the Mexican light flyweight champ) but still...
