Alejandro Hernández vs. Isao Gonzalo Carranza II, 10 rounds @ super bantamweight

 

Round 1

Hernández is circling in something approximating the Philly shell, launching jabs off the hip. Carranza is stepping to his left, rocking his upper half rhythmically as he goes, elbows jutting out from the high guard to either side in time with his steps. Carranza tossing single lead rights and quick up-jabs with bold steps inside before pulling out with his arms down. Hernández suddenly dashes in with a solid right hand stuck in behind a jab, lunging and pushing Carranza into the ropes with it.

Round 2

Hernández is blasting Carranza with the 1-2 and solo right hand. Carranza is doing his best orthodox Maravilla impression, complete with the pigeon-necking, making his way around Hernández and poking with jabs and rights from low holsters. More hard rights by Hernández. They come together ostensibly for a clinch but Carranza traps one arm of Hernández's and begins to plug away on his stomach with his own free hand. The ref intervenes when Hernández shoots him an indignant pleading look.

Round 3

Hernández is reaching up over Carranza's low-sloped arm to jab him in the face, now reddening. Carranza is drawing up the well-pail and then flicking his lead hand at Hernández, then brushing with it, throwing multiple "jabs" without retracting to snap them. Another right hand by Hernández and Carranza is slightly hurt. Carranza does some quick dancing away, tapping with the jab as Hernández lunges over it with his own.

Round 4

Hernández is chasing after Carranza but taking care not to go swimming in the moat unprotected. He sends out tester jabs and then drops low, careening to either side in a dead-lift pose to slip Carranza's spray of light jabs off the hip while dancing around him. Right hands on the body starting to score for Hernández.

Round 5

Hernández is stamping Carranza into a corner with a rapid hard jab. Carranza greases his way out and starts to fire in multiples to fend Hernández off. SOLID overhand right by Carranza, stuns Hernández. Carranza wastes no time admiring his work, peppering Hernández with left hooks and more short rights while braving the waters inside, leaving as soon as Hernández begins to exhibit signs of clearing the cobwebs and rallying. That moment and its sustained aftermath were enough, however, to secure the round for the underdog.

The unofficial scorecard of the Boxeo Telemundo commentator also has it 49-46 Hernández, by a different route. They gave Carranza the first, but not the fifth.

 

Round 6

Hernández is tossing long jabs to prod Carranza into a corner again. He lets Carranza escape, however, as he clearly wants as little part of any phone booth warfare as Carranza does. Both showing respect, getting off with single blows and then on their way. Long scooping body hooks by Hernández, flinching away in anticipation of a counter flurry, then boomeranging in with a right on the body when nothing comes.

Round 7

Hernández is plowing the body with a long and low-flung underhanded right. Carranza is squatting and crossing his arms out ahead of him with a dual layered defense, screening punches and having plenty of time on the outside to scout whatever else Hernández might have as follow-up, tilting his upper body to avoid it as soon as he sees it wound up. Carranza is butted. Time out. In. They explode before the bell, each throwing big hooks from their sides.

Round 8

Hernández is following Carranza into the corners, trying his best to be patient, but invariably getting bored and lunging in with a jab as Carranza just tents both wrists over his eyes and peers at him, forming bumpers to catch the long right hands that Hernández drops in that would ordinarily be landing on the forehead, and letting his fists roam a few inches as needed if Hernández tries fixing his aim with the jab lower on Carranza's mandible. Hernández frustrated, looking for something he can touch Carranza with, getting bold. Hernández getting lit up with counter flurries as Carranza springs forth and pops him from the corner with educated placement of both hands. Carranza now finds open space and walks across the ring tagging Hernández with jabs and quick rights from mid-range.

Round 9

Hernández is overreaching with the jab, leaving it hung frozen in the air, getting countered as Carranza drops anchor, then hit with shoeshines on the body as Carranza bows to one side. Rinse & repeat. Hernández looking tired. Carranza is calm & composed, taking control.

Round 10

Hernández is walking down Carranza and drilling him with 1-2s. Carranza's turn now to be tired. Hernández trades flush jabs with Carranza and both men are knocked back a step. Carranza is backing away, laying on the ropes. Hernández attacking with right hands in succession. Hook exchange inside, both scoring. Carranza is sweeping out the left while shuffling away. Carranza still carrying his arms low. Hernández drops a lead right on the body, getting Carranza to lower his gloves, then punishes him with a STIFF jab on the mouth. They swap leather at the bell furiously.

I just saw Payasito's trunks, on which both his surname and nickname are printed. (but in a very scrunched together and tightly-spaced font, and in white clashing with the bright yellow)

I had thought he was the taller one, for some reason.
