Carmona, on home turf in the capital, is making the second defense of his WBO Youth super flyweight title against the Jalisco native.

 

Round 1

Carmona is circling left and sticking the jab out at intervals, timing Garcia's quick rushes in and taking careful aim. Garcia circles with his guard up, squatting and rising, looking for openings, then darting in quickly with his trailblazing jab, exhibiting much faster hand speed than Carmona. Carmona throws a 1-2 and gets blocked on the crossed arms of Garcia as he turns away. Double jab feint by Carmona, getting Garcia to back up. Body jab by Carmona. Garcia hurls in an overhand right, clipping the jaw of Carmona but getting countered by a 1-2.

Round 2

Carmona is jabbing and coasting left in orbit around Garcia. Attempted dive in to grab by Garcia, caught with an uppercut as Carmona dips to meet him. Long reaching jabs by Garcia, getting slap-parried by Carmona's jab. Downward slashing motions with the right hand by Garcia, perhaps meant to be distracting. Quick 1-2 by Carmona! Garcia is down. Quickly up. Double jab by Carmona, taking his time, working in methodically and not rushing to cover ground when Garcia steps back. Garcia is looking to set a trap, banking on Carmona thinking he is more hurt than he is. Carmona isn't buying it, reaching out to jab the body and tap Garcia on the cheek with grazing hooks, showing he is nobody's fool.

Round 3

Carmona is raking Garcia on the eyes with his jab, timing it to fly in past Garcia's when it comes shooting out from his jittery guard. Garcia fakes a right hand lead but instead of drawing a head shot from Carmona it backfires on him and he gets drilled with a pair of body shots delivered from outside without Carmona surrendering his positioning. Garcia keeps trying to feign with the lead right but Carmona ignores it, circling left and jabbing into Garcia's eyes. Double jabs now from Garcia, pushed out over Carmona's head as he backs up into a half-crouch while continuing to circle and snap out his stronger and more accurate jab. Clinch. Ref orders a break. Flurry by Carmona, missing hooks around Garcia's back and then jumping outside as Garcia takes his turn, missing.

This is a nice little scrap for a nightcap...with Carmona just slightly too clever and sharp for Tostado, not quite evenly matched but not a whitewash either.

 

Garcia is so far undefeated but largely untested.

Carmona has lost once, in his second year in the pros via 6 round split decision...and later avenged that by knockout.

Both have primarily fought in their home states.

Garcia is pressing in now, throwing jabs and big can-opener rights walking forward. Carmona is dancing away, popping his jab and moving out of reach with his feet alighting on the mat for mere split-seconds. Carmona is stepping in when Garcia jabs and hooking over his arm, turning his face with the blow as it crashes on target in a falling arc. Garcia maintains his aggression but isn't doing much clean work, getting tied up when he makes it all the way inside and countered at mid-range. Garcia connects with a grazing right hand after eating a jab, as Carmona falls back into a semi-crouch. Body shot by Garcia. Right hand on the top of the head by Carmona. Left hook by Carmona backing up. Double jab by Garcia giving chase.

Round 5

Carmona is slipping jabs and diving in with 1-2s to the body. Frequent clinches. Garcia is chopping with his right and either whiffing or batting Carmona's spine in awkward repellant collisions. Carmona is bouncing around, now circling to his right and needling Garcia's face with the jab. 1-2 up top and hook to the body by Carmona while drifting left. Garcia tries to flurry with him but simply can't get as much leather to score. Carmona despite having slower hands possesses the faster, smoother footwork.

The unofficial Boxeo Telemundo commentators scorecard has it 49-45 to Carmona, giving the 4th to Garcia, which is fair as that was his best round and was Carmona's least productive.

 

Round 6

Carmona is caught by an uppercut and backed up. Hard double jab by Garcia pressing the advantage. Carmona bails himself out with a double hook to the crotch and face. Garcia clutches himself but doesn't sell the foul, or senses the ref won't be sympathetic and so just sucks it up. Slapping hook by Carmona rushing in, pulling Garcia into a brief clinch. Garcia is walking him down and waiting until he is close to double up the jab or throw a big telegraphed right hand over the top. Carmona is ducking and grabbing. Counter right by Carmona, scraping Garcia's throat but otherwise missing. Garcia steps in with a jab and catches a 1-2 on the back of his right glove. Jab by Garcia. Clinch by Carmona.

On the graphics, they're referring to Garcia as though his name were "Antonio Tostado".

As far as I know, Tostado is his nickname. (it's a type of Mexican sandwich)

Boxrec lists it as both his real middle name and ring name. Maybe it started as the latter and he at some point had it legally changed, like how Marvin Hagler officially added "Marvelous" to his.

It is lettered on his trunks.

Round 7

Carmona is jabbing and ducking in, tapping the jab against Garcia's left bicep and then shredding his chest with short right hands while leaned inside. Garcia finally times Carmona with a perfect right hand and staggers him a little, but Carmona is quickly back on track jabbing and stepping to his left. Garcia lunges in with a flurry and Carmona holds for a moment before pushing off and jabbing some more. Body hook by Carmona as Garcia jumps in on him. Garcia raises his left forearm to catch the jabs and rights of Carmona while advancing. Uppercut by Carmona, switching tacks and landing beautifully.

10-9 Carmona...and he had honestly taken it even before the uppercut, although prior to it Garcia had the best single punch of the round.
