Ortega is listed 5'10", which puts Munguia at probably 5'5.5", maybe five-six at most.

Ortega has no age listed but he looks early twenties, in any event clearly at least a solid decade the junior of 35-year-old "Gravedigger".

Munguia is ripping the body of Ortega with lefts and rights, shoulders hunched up and pinched in, leaning forward, grinding Ortega into the ropes. Whipping hooks across the back of the head by Ortega backing up. Light left jabs on the hairline by Ortega, walking in long steps away from Munguia. Body shots by Munguia after curling into a ball and riding the gutter. Ortega is bouncing on his toes, using the whole ring as he forks out light jabs, rat tail lashing his neck and flying up into the air.

Munguia is braving the waters inside without curling up anymore, gloves resting under or just in front of his chin as he leads with rolling body combos or wide looping punches arced up at the face. Ortega is loading up on right uppercuts, splaying his legs until landing and then drawing them in close to facilitate short quick steps away. Munguia attacks the body. Ortega jabs down at him from against the ropes. Munguia is eating shots and getting swollen around the eyes but landing the harder stuff, including a surprise left uppercut that rocks Ortega.

Round 8

Munguia is advancing with short right hooks up top, missing but forcing Ortega to flee. Time out - something checked. Ortega's glove tape? No corner visit. Munguia is missing his right hook on purpose, a throwaway punch designed to get Ortega moving backward in straight predictable lines - all the way onto the ropes, where Munguia hammers the body. Ortega now takes a turn scrubbing Munguia's back with right uppercuts but quickly loses his taste for battle and skips in reverse into the ropes again. Munguia is ducking in under sweeping left hooks from Ortega, letting them cuff the back of his head. Munguia keeps putting his head in the crook of Orrtega's elbow, but getting flipped away. WIDE lunging right hook downstairs by Munguia, missing badly. Munguia bosses Ortega against the ropes and cracks him on the jaw with uppercuts and overhands. Counters by Ortega, landing crisply and cleanly but gaining him no quarter.

Round 9

Munguia is halted by the ref before he is halfway off his stool to center ring. His face is too greasy. Wiped off with a rag. Time in. Munguia is throwing body shots in tight little bunches when up close, otherwise plodding into Ortega with his upper body stretched forth, bent at the waist. Munguia is missing an increasing amount of his looping shots upstairs and throwing almost nothing at the body as Ortega keeps him chasing and chasing. Ortega turns a few light hooks over into Munguia's face while jogging to his left. Ortega covers up by the ropes and blocks a pair of looping punches on his partially crossed arms, one high and the other low. Ortega is trapped in a corner, too weary to run anymore with Munguia unloading on him with overhands but the bell sounds before anything can get through on the button, Ortega managing to keep his arms in the way of most of Munguia's now sloppier offense.

They gave him the ninth, and must have given one round level between the seventh and eighth.

 

Round 10

Munguia is reaching up with his right hook, missing and taking straight flurries on the face. Ortega is running, a bit disjointed in his footwork, slipping but not falling, righting himself and continuing to backpedal throwing jabs into Munguia's face. Stiff right jab on the belly by Munguia and Ortega is caught with his feet too wide and on a wet spot on the canvas and goes down, wincing. Judgment call. Ref doesn't call it a knockdown, and instructs someone to wipe the spot on the canvas. Time in. Big wide body shots by Munguia, going for broke. Ortega backs into a corner and drops light jabs and rights down into the exposed back of Munguia's head. Big hooks by Munguia, no steam on them but keeping Ortega pinned on the ropes. Clinch by Ortega. Break. Immediately Ortega ties up again, pushing off before the ref can intervene. Vicious body combo by Munguia, bringing a looping right up top and only grazing as Ortega executes a timely lean backward into the ropes.

The belt should change hands. It will be Munguia's third. He was previously the welterweight champion of Mexico for eighteen months, with two successful defenses before losing it via injury TKO. Concurrent with that reign he was the WBC United States NBC Silver welterweight champion, making one defense before vacating.

They gave him the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th-10th (the eighth apparently was 10-8...so either a glove-touch knockdown was ruled there at the beginning or a point deducted...)

Round 1

Morán is using his great length advantage to light up the body of Rodriguez with jabs and straight rights on a decline. Rodriguez circles warily, glove up, darting in with a few high rights but countered with jabs for his troubles, although he does land.

Morán is dropping his elbows to block as Rodriguez dives in with a low 1-2. Morán is spacing out and lining up the jab on the nose of Rodriguez. Right hand dropped on the face by Morán just before tying up as Rodriguez gets close. Rodriguez is bloodied from a 1-2 and shoots a red snot rocket at Morán's feet at mid-range. Long left hook by Morán. Body jab by Rodriguez. Clinch. Slapping body shot by Morán.
