Round 1

Colón sticking the jab into the face of Morán, pressing him into the ropes but getting countered by hard uppercuts. Morán dangerous like a cornered animal but getting outworked. Colón scoring with overhand rights across the side of the head and short looping rights on the lower jawline. They clinch and play a little tug of war as their arms remain entangled. Morán begins asserting his jab and working some nice uppercuts on the body. They hook together and Colón's thuds a little more solidly. Morán with some more hefty shots downstairs.

Round 2

Morán is dancing around, ducking the jab of Colón and catching the right hand on his left bicep, angling it up to shield himself just in time. Colón is hurling in big hooks at the body, leaving himself wide open to counters. Morán grinds him against the ropes, then pushes out to ring center and gets into a rhythm popping jabs into the face. Colón whips a few looping rights into the face and then slaps at the body.

Round 3

Colón is forcing a brawl, and Morán obliges with hard left hooks and right crosses on the face. Colón throwing a higher volume, and Morán the crisper and more powerful blows - and both are showing good chins, with a pretty intense pace of sustained violence. Morán shoves Colón into the ropes and backs out with a left hook, just missing. Colón nods his appreciation of the KO intent behind that one. Colón is now walking forward, clodding the neck of Morán and below his ears. Morán gets out to medium range and slices into the mandible with some jabs, but Colón swarms in and chucks power flurries from body to head.

Round 4

Colón is letting his left jab get snatched and held in midair by Morán, sacrificing the pawn so that he can ride the momentum of Morán jerking on his arm to further turbo-charge his curveball right hands on the body. Morán spends most of the first minute retreating but finally decides to hold the line with a series of hard right hooks behind a setup left jab. Colón is hurt and backed up for a solid thirty seconds, but as soon as Morán slows his output is back to pushing inside throwing body shots. HUGE counter right by Morán forces Colón to stagger forth into a clinch.

Round 5

Morán has a mouse on his right eye, and his cheek below it has swollen and turned purple. Colón's hooks have been quietly doing damage, and now threaten to close it off and deny Mexican the use of half his sight. Colón is crouching in place as Morán fires right hand leads at him, then springing up and cracking Morán with hard rights and heavy, lumpy power jabs. Morán's vision and/or gas tank must be diminishing, because he wasn't getting touched by the Colón jab before.

The commentators have it 48-47 Morán at the halfway point, giving Colón rounds three and five.

 

Round 6

Colón is confidently walking in throwing lead uppercuts. Morán is still looking a bit arm weary and ragged, pushing out his jab and swinging hooks that miss and drag him bodily into clinches falling atop Colón. Morán is bashed in the back of the head by a series of rabbit punches on the inside as he curls his chin to his chest, with Colón also belting him with uppercuts the lower he gets. Morán furiously hooks away on the head with both hands and seems to have Colón abruptly stunned. Morán senses it and doesn't let up. Several more hard right and left hooks and down he goes. Pinky beats the count but the ref thinks he doesn't look right, eyes unfocused. Waved off.

TKO6!!

 

Well, this was exactly what I thought it would be.

Curtiss, a gringo from Butte, MT with a 2-5 record - is literally twice Zayas' age (36 vs. 18...)

Don't see that very often.
