Paines is flurrying and defending on the inside, playing with fire here. Finally the beast awakens and Barrera catches him with a big powerful right. Paines does exactly the wrong thing in reaction - stumbling straight back into bombing range. Barrera takes advantage with a ruthless barrage of hard whips to the head and body. Big power. Paines is devastated. Paines succumbs and drops down to the mat and isn't given a chance to return to action.

Yoandras Salinas vs. Robert Daluz, 6 rounds @ featherweight.

 

Round 1

Damn! Immediate knockdown scored by Salinas. Beautiful quick right hand. Daluz rises a bit unsteadily and tries to peck and claw his way back into the round but to no avail. He gets hit big again. Salinas just slaughtering him with the left hook and gavel right. ALMOST another knockdown near the end of the round. Salinas showing some tight defense and good speed/power here.

 

Round 2

Salinas is back at it, getting Daluz in some trouble early but letting him slip through his fingers. Daluz tries some of his awkward inside-out attacking, his shoulders stooped low like an Argentine boxer. Salinas isn't impressed with any of that, and just keeps catching whatever he can't slip with his L-shaped guard and then hammering Daluz with sharp and powerful blows. Daluz spilled on his ass AGAIN, landing on the bottom rope. Daluz beats the count and looks embarrassed more than anything, and tries to close out the round flailing wildly in what may be an attempt to salvage the round by scoring his own knockdown. He doesn't even come close.

10-8 Salinas

 

Round 3

Daluz is just leaning back and getting sniped on the ropes. Salinas isn't pressing the stoppage but doesn't seem far off, as Daluz is falling to pieces every time Salinas opens up in combination. Daluz is very negative now, taking quick retreating steps and trying to flail at Salinas from afar just to clog the lane. Salinas knocks him to the ropes with a body shot. Daluz leans back on the outside and moves his head, showing off a bit. Daluz has horrible footwork and just stumbles forward while flailing, only avoiding another knockdown because his head is moving and his flapping arms are in the way of Salinas'. Wild overhand right misses by Daluz. Salinas jumps straight up and is caught in midair by Daluz. Very bizarre clinch.

Round 4

Good jabs working by Salinas. Daluz is just brushing him with his own lazy lefts and flipping over those wide ball-and-chain rights. Salinas is winning this round almost entirely behind his jab, which is itself stiff enough to knock Daluz off balance at times. Salinas ducks a few shots and sidesteps an attempt to grab by Daluz. Nice movement here. Salinas barks out as he throws a 1-2 to the body. Now he drills Daluz with a right hand up top and makes him sit on the bottom rope - should be scored a knockdown!! (isn't)

Round 5

Salinas jabs patiently for the opening minute, before seemingly getting infuriated at the stagnancy and having to see the goofy smile on Daluz's face. Salinas starts to put combos together, punctuating them with hard hooks that rock Daluz back. Now a long sequence of unanswered uppercuts by Salinas, most to the body. Shoeshines by Salinas. Daluz looks to hold. Salinas steps outside and twists his ankles as he alternates lead feet, doing the hokey pokey.

Round 6

Salinas jabs and hooks, interrupting his work to shell up as Daluz starts to slap away at him with girly waves. Daluz is clowning, popping his shoulder and sneering at Salinas, doing an odd mini-shuffle. Salinas is running out of time to stop this fool, and doesn't seem to be stepping on the gas enough to do it...but then there comes another beautiful right hand counter and Daluz staggers all the way back into the corner!! Daluz holds. Salinas shoeshines.

It has gone the distance. That is actually pretty shocking, considering how it started out.

 

The commentators have Salinas up 60-52, which seems right.
