Mosquera is marching in, dipping to either side, keeping his guard up, throwing hard power hooks up and down with soaring rights mixed in - looking every bit a shrunken down 80's Tyson. Rivera circles in, paws his jab into the air for window dressing, reaches down and grabs Mosquera around the waist. HUGE clubbing right over a jab at mid-range by Mosquera, hurting Rivera and making him slump back against the ropes to regroup. Rivera circles and shoeshines before leaning down into Mosquera with a shoulder lowered. Mosquera leans far back in a Philly shell now, letting Rivera flick jabs along his left bicep or centimeters in front of his chin. Mosquera is conserving his energy, not bothering to mount one more assault with the clock running out in this round.

Round 7

Mosquera is ripping up Rivera's body and corralling him into corners where he bombs away with overhands, throwing all power punches but carefully picking his spots. Rivera lands a counter left hook and Mosquera shows his foolish macho side, dropping his arms (shades of Campbell vs. Peden or Mayorga vs. Forrest) and letting Rivera have a couple more freebies. Then Mosquera answers back with more painful hooks, backing Rivera into a corner.

Honestly this version of Mosquera (even though he was playing for the crowd a bit, and making errors that one might not make against someone they actually took seriously) against the Guzman who lost to Allakhverdiev is very much a pick 'em.

The guy was deprived of a very real chance at his second world title by Guzman's antics. :verysad

They're interviewing Mike Tyson...in English.

Tyson actually promotes a kid who made his pro debut on the non-televised undercard.

Albert Bell had a successful beginning to his career, defeating fellow debutant Harold Torres in a super featherweight 4-rounder.

Mike is hoping to concentrate on Tyson Promotions but still has various movie/documentary/speaking engagements keeping him busy.

He ends the interview in Spanish with "muchos gracias" in an affected accent.

Ariel Vega vs. Jose Rodriguez II - 4 rounds @ super flyweight

 

This is an immediate rematch for both, having made their debuts against each other in February on Boxeo Telemundo.

Vega beat Rodriguez by TKO4.

Vega is 18 years old. Rodriguez is twenty years older at 38. This is literally a kid whooping on an old man (or vice versa...)

 

Round 1

Rodriguez is putting up a right jab and trying for lefts to the stomach. Vega patiently waves his gloves out and bats down Rodriguez's shots, slapping around the side with his right hand. Body shots by the southpaw while stepping around his junior. Vega steps in and jabs at the chest of Rodriguez, stuffed by Rodriguez's descending left. Right hands over the top by Vega, coming up short. Rodriguez drops his face in looking to slip to either side of Vega's jab but is caught by a short hook instead, miscalculating both the distance and Vega's intentions.

Round 2

Rodriguez is scoring with the right jab, bringing the fight to Vega early. Body shots and right hooks by Rodriguez. Vega is stunned and backed up. Rodriguez walks into a right hand and staggers back. Rodriguez keeps pressing behind the right jab, and slashes down with the right hook as Vega steps away in a squat with gloves curled over his ears. Rodriguez leans in, past Vega's jab, shooting in straight lefts at Vega's stomach. Wild right haymaker by Vega dropped from outside, missing widely. Rodriguez circles and works the right jab, putting in a 1-2 to the body. Right hook downstairs by Rodriguez as they step together punching simultaneously.

Round 3

Rodriguez is skewering Vega with lefts downstairs and luring him into right hooks while pacing semicircles around him. Vega is making rookie mistakes, overreaching with body hooks and leaving himself open up top. Rodriguez is putting maximum torque into his counters as he glides along the carousel, turning Vega and smashing him with both hands without reprieve, several blows together each time.

Round 4

Rodriguez is caught behind the head. Vega is warned for rabbit punching. Rights to the body by Vega. That shot hurt Rodriguez and he is having trouble recovering, his legs still limp. Vega rattles him with a left hook. 1-2 by Vega, crunching into Rodriguez's face and putting him on his heels. Vega flicks a jab into Rodriguez's face and backs him up with a sequence of blocked rights. Rodriguez finally answers back with a flush overhand left but can't muster anything more. Rodriguez gets up on his toes putting a right hook behind a throwaway left as he circles past Vega. Rodriguez stays outside, throwing light combos leaning in slightly before resuming his flight. Vega follows and swipes with left hooks. Left to the body diving in by Rodriguez. He straightens and throws a right hook just as Vega throws a left hook.
