Vazquez is back to short-cropped hair. Maybe he figured the shag he brought to Macao was bad luck.

 

Avila looks ripped, and like I anticipated is staring daggers through Vazquez not giving a **** who he is, what he's done, or who shared the ring with him...seeing only a slab of meat.

 

Round 1

Vazquez is jabbing in and missing about half, then pulling back. Avila is puffed up by the right eye from the jab but is tossing in sidearm right hands and either thudding into the side of Vazquez' head or making him duck. Right hand, left hook combo by Avila stepping in. Vazquez jabs and moves in and out, drawing his face back far behind his gloves as he withdraws after each step-through left jab. Big left hook to the body by Avila. Long reaching left hook on the jawline by Avila, grazing as Vazquez jerks straight back.

Round 2

Vazquez is getting walked back across the Ford logo and caught with long catapulted right hands. Vazquez keeps pumping the left jab and drifting a few steps in either direction before squatting and reversing. Avila is catching him during the low point of his dips with artless but heavy clubbing blows. BIG left hook by Avila only tickles Vazquez on the end of the nose but sends him backpedaling quickly from the pocket. Another big left hook by Avila. Vazquez is hurt and yet standing in, trading punches freely with Avila. Left hooks land for both. Avila clips Vazquez in the body and jolts his eyes open wider, then another hook up top. Vazquez gamely hangs in close, winding up his own hooks and punching along with Avila.

The unofficial Boxeo Telemundo commentator's scorecard has it 19-19, giving Vazquez the 1st and the 2nd to Avila.

 

Round 3

Vazquez is boxing on the outside, putting in the high line drive jab and then pitching in the overhand right, catching Avila flat on the face with one. Avila is using twits and body feints stepping in, lots of jerky motion above the waist but keeping his legs anchored when not waltzing in. Hooks from Avila, caught on the arms by Vazquez. Patient jabs and carefully selected overhand spots during Avila's rest periods by Vazquez.
