    Round 4

Vazquez is jabbing in from medium range, targeting Avila's cut and bruised lower eyelids. Avila smashes in the left hook when Vazquez creeps near enough. Stiff jab by Vazquez, holding Avila outside. Lunging shot by Avila, countered by a short check hook as Vazquez pivots out. Vazquez moves to his left and turns his shoulder to Avila when he sees the youth's jab incoming. Vazquez shoves off and resumes his track on the outside. Avila is attempting to apply pressure but Vazquez is showing him too many tricks, escaping with quick flourishes of fancy crossover footwork and staying off the ropes, popping jabs.

    10-9 Vazquez

    38-38

...which means he is about to school this poor boy.

Unless he is like Guy Pearce in Memento, and loses the memo between now and the twelfth... :nonono

Even in pure boxer mode, I don't like how much Wilfredo gets hit these days, and by shots that are not terribly sharp (but, unfortunately for him and his limited capacity for absorption of punishment, quite heavy)

    Round 5

Vazquez is jabbing and weaving on the outside, letting Avila miss his straight lunges over either shoulder. Vazquez goes into a half-kneel inside and lands a short overhand right while Avila is loading up a hook. Jabs are scoring for Vazquez all over the map as he rotates Avila on a rotisserie. Avila is getting dangerously close with his power, but not landing more than once per go as long as Vazquez keeps it moving and doesn't admire his own work.

    10-9 Vazquez

    48-47 Vazquez

    Round 6

Vazquez lands a jab and suddenly Avila backs out and communicates with the ref while keeping a wary eye on Vazquez, who pursues him relentlessly and refuses to acknowledge the break in the action. Was there a foul there? Anyway, the ref motions to continue and they do so. Left hook by Vazquez crouching in close under Avila's jab. Big right hands by Avila, missing as Vazquez ducks and circles out, countering with accurate jabs on the eyes. Avila is backed up for the first time as Vazquez jabs and snaps off pinball launcher rights. Avila resumes the forward momentum, landing left hooks to the body from outside. Vazquez pops a 1-2 into Avila's face, dead between the eyes. Avila walks into an overhand right, persistent. Avila doesn't even blink when Vazquez lands full bore on him. BIG OVERHANDS and hooks by Avila, suddenly exploding at the warning clap with ten seconds left. Vazquez looks to be in trouble, but is saved by the bell.

10-9 Vazquez, though another ten seconds and it might have been stolen or even rendered 10-8 to Avila...or worse.

    58-56 Vazquez

The unofficial Boxeo Telemundo commentator's scorecard has it 57-57, giving Avila the 2nd-4th.

    Round 7

Vazquez is tossing jabs up in the air, nervously propelling himself around the ring on the balls of his feet. Avila is pawing a throwaway jab stalking in, eating Vazquez's jab willingly, looking for big uppercuts to the body and swatting down with airborne left hooks to block Vazquez's escape route the other way. Avila is cutting the ring down well. BIG combination by Avila, body to head and back again. Vazquez hooks with him instead of moving, and regrets the error as he gets thumped hard on the ribs and chest by massive hooks before diving in to clinch. Avila knocks him back into retreat.

    10-9 Avila

    67-66 Vazquez

    Round 8

Vazquez is landing his jab on the forehead and pattering away clockwise, then changing directions. Avila walks into a soaring overhand right delivered from a sit-back crouch by Vazquez on the outside. Avila keeps walking forward, leading with either window-dressing jabs or long straight rights to the body. HARD rips downstairs by Avila in the press when they lean together. Vazquez is looking to shake him, get back outside and back on the jab. Avila stays close. Jab by Avila, then a glancing right hand and the finishing left hook scoring as he jumps in on Vazquez. Slow and tactical last minute, lots of positional adjustments by either man.

10-9 Vazquez but another close one, nearly stolen by a late flurry of power from Avila.

    77-75 Vazquez
