WORLD champion boxer Barry Michael is expected to be hit with a gun charge.

Michael - who is due to be part of the commentary team for the Delhi Commonwealth Games - was arrested last Sunday in Williamstown, the Herald Sun believes.

Police confirmed last night they attended a John St house and executed a firearm warrant, discovering a gun and an amount of cash.
A police spokeswoman said a man was arrested and interviewed then released, to be charged on summons.

The fighter is expected to be charged with possessing a pistol.
Michael confirmed police had attended his property but declined to comment further last night, directing the Herald Sun to his lawyer.
"I had police visit me ... I've been charged with nothing," he said.

He said he was set to fly to India soon to be part of Nine's commentary team for the Commonwealth Games.

His lawyer Bernie Balmer said no charges had been laid and "we are not confirming anything at all".

Michael is best remembered for winning the IBF super featherweight title from another Melbourne champ, Lester Ellis, in 1985.
He lost the belt in 1987.

The English-born boxer, whose family migrated to Australia when he was a toddler, is a boxing analyst in the media.

He has claimed his career ended after he was brutally bashed by gangster Alphonse Gangitano in 1987.

Gangitano, who was murdered in Melbourne's gangland wars, was a fan of Ellis.

Was is a replica pistol/antique or something?

You would think that if he has been cleared that the Hearld Sun would have run another publication on the matter clearing Barry Boy of any wrong doing. Any link clearing him?

you cannot be charged for being a wanker or a one-eyed mundine nut hugger and incompetent commentator, otherwise Barry would be serving life

Thats pretty farkn crap of them to do that if its true. I would not be to happy with them if i was Barry, it doesnt put him in a positive light and as such they should have atleast run with a follow up story clearing barry of any wrong doing.

Poor form from a news paper thats for sure.

The Herald Sun is a tabloid newspaper. They sensationalise everything and always only give one side of the story.

    You really are a halfwit.

Check out the crime rates in America and compare them to country's like ours with tight gun control.

Better still grab a gun and blow your own head off and do us all a favour :deal

Guns don't kill people, people kill people (more often than not they kill each other with guns but hey, minor detail) :bart
