Possibly, but then a technically adept swarmer could be classed as both a boxer and a swarmer which completely invalidates your argument. Truth of the matter is a fighter who can box, swarm and punch is likely to be able to beat anyone.

Puncher ain't a style. Having sizeable punching power is an attribute, though.

I just don't think the puncher category has ever made sense and I know its well referred to in the game. You have to have some ability to implement that power with your own style. You could be a boxer-puncher with a punch like Hearns, you could be a brawler like Big George, you could be a hybrid like Duran. They're all punchers, its just an attribute.

    What about 'Handspeeders'

Only if you are reading too much into it or don't understand what is mean generally by the categories. Boxer tends to mean someone who fights on the outside rather than pressures, rather than referring solely their technical ability. Chavez was good technically, but more defined by his pressure fighting.

    Is a fair point.

I still don't have a problem with people being defined mainly by their power. It's not meant to be an in depth analysis. Someone who is a bit more crude regardless of style but has a punch e.g a Ketchel type.

Iron-jawed swarming-boxer (Calzaghe/Duran) beats all at own weight.

That would be a "slickster" or does that describe a footspeeder? :huh

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Manos de Piedra a swarmer?

    Wot'chu'takin'bout?

Quite possibly the most skilled and well-rounded fighter ever.

This dude effectively counter-punched Marvin freakin' Hagler over 20lbs above his natural weight class.

One can only assume you are talking about Rahman & therefore I agree:good

Foreman, Dempsey, Lewis & maybe Holmes have a better chance against Marciano imho.

    Edit: Liston as well.

A traditional boxer tends to win on points via outfighting. A traditional puncher tends to win by knockout via mid-range power. A traditional swarmer tends to win on points or stoppage via infighting.

A boxer doesn't have to have no punch or fight. A puncher doesn't have to have no skills or fight. And a swarmer doesn't have to no skills or punch. It's just what category they fall into most appropriately, what their natural style is or what they do best.

If you box, you can outmaneveur a puncher. If you swarm, you can outwork a boxer but leave yourself open to be knocked out by a puncher ('Rickaaay!').

The best style is none of those. It is boxer-puncher ;)

Cheers, you seem to get it.

Obviously I know Duran and Hearns can box...

But that doesn't mean a boxer-puncher would be allergic or disabled at fighting inside...
