I've always thought of DLH as the modern boxer/puncher. Good skills with the ability to bang when necessary. Whilst its definately a mix of the two I'd say a boxer/puncher relies more on skill than his punching power.

De La Hoya is a very good example. A boxer-puncher is somebody I regard as genuinely well balanced, technically skilled with the ability to pick their spots and hit hard.

    Joe Louis.

This may feel strange, but also Sonny Liston. Although he's much more on the puncher/power side of the equation. Most would associate him as mindless slugger/brawler because they just know that Ali dethroned him and that he was an intimidating terror that hit hard. Truth is, he could box damn well better than anyone with the power he possessed.

Thomas Hearns, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard are all Boxer-punchers in my estimation.

A well schooled technically sound fighter who also possess knockout power.

Naseem Hamed, in his own unique way he could outbox opponents and get his shots in before moving out of range, but he also has massive power for his weight.

Thanks, that's a good pick too. I like Thomas Hearns a lot as a pick that another poster mentioned too.

Michael Spinks was one of the very best. Often out-boxed his opponents before knocking them out with the Spinks Jinx.
