Interesting read on fighters over the past 100 years who have been involved in Boxer vs Wrestler matches,.... some real, some 'fake'. http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3631
Yeah these weren't just wrestling they were MMA Berbick got his legs kicked hard several times then jumped out of the ring, Duran won a few of these Riddick Bowe did this as well. Lennox Lewis got manhandled by the boxer Jeremy Williams during sparring over Lewis doing something so Williams also a 2nd degree Judo black belt started throwing Lewis. The only champion I read that wrestlers were afraid of was Foreman.... There is stories of Marciano being avoided by wrestlers because of his intensity to Marciano a fight was a fight. I find it funny that Luttrell picked a fight with Dempsey who also trained extensively in catch wrestling as a carry over from previous eras. I doubt Chuck Wepner ever after trying to legit KO Andre the giant ever got another chance to do these matches again.
This has happened quite a bit through history. Sam Mcvey ko'd two ju jutsu fighters. Bob Fitzsimmons had his arm injured in a mixed fight when a jujitsu fighter got him in an armbar. I always found it funny when people thought the mixed fights in the 90s were a brand new idea.
One time I saw a list of of dozens of boxer vs wrestler bouts....most won by wrestlers....they have the advantage more times than not
Here is an article that talks about Sam Mcvey's fight with a jiu jitsu fighter https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bl...icles-sam-mcvea-MMA-Australia-Ju-Jitsu-Boxing
I always thought boxers training in wrestling ended in Dempsey's era, and man those old catch wrestlers were some pretty bad dudes!
