Carl Froch - I'm trying hard not to let the Abraham win decieve me, because let's be real, Abraham was appalling that night. But in the next year or so, I think he'll be exceeding the initial expectations I had of him. Sergio Martinez - His exploits since the first Paul Williams fight, have been exceptional.
Khan I saw him in the ameaturs, great hand speed but got caught way too easy and was protected for a long time by Warren with his suspect chin Now being touted as the best at 140 and a future ATG fair play to him
Cornelius Bundrage just a stong bloke with a big right hand Picked last on the contender series and all he did was throw the big right hand in messy bouts Previously he got knocked down alot against average fighters has come a long way since then and is now a legitamate world champion holding the IBF belt
This guy = protected. I'l give him his praise when he fights someone on elite level let alone beats them
Amir Khan. I never thought he could still somehow make a noise in this sport with his not so above average skill and a chin like that.
Trouble with Hatton is the weight of expectation was massive for him therefore he didn't exceed anyones expectations. His fans genuinly thought he could beat Pac and Mayweather
all the obvious/notable examples have been said but oh yeah jason litzau.........he looked poor even before he got on mainstream tv. open flailing and lack of technique or brains. looked like a ko waiting to happen or at least not be able to get a top 10 ranking. and the way that herrera just seemed to just wait for an opening with the knowledge that he would get to him eventually. and if not he would just swarm him and pull him apart. and the way guerrero went straight through him like a tank through a horse drawn cart. not giving enough distance angles or using basic technique to get out of the way or fight back appropriately was just to me all the evidence i needed to evaluate that; the guy doesn't improve, the guy seems to look for the one punch even though he may not get it or show any signs of developing the fight and his work on his stamina. yet the winning streak he has had is pretty impressive. kimbrough - good amateur mismanaged but still a tough person to get back on track with. edwards- tough, hard hitting, hard working journeyman, who should of got the decision against barnet and was unlucky to get a jab to the body knockdown against rivera. also the gamboa ko to me was a bit of a nunn kalembey on a micro level. -rocky juarez- who has been champion in waiting for a damn while now with 5 title challenges. has class power skills and a tough all rounder. and was outboxed and cut up. and his most impressive win over celestino cabellero which even though relied on his length and strength and awkward angles was made pretty null in the fight and simply out boxed. im not saying he will be a world champ but it's a relatively impressive string of victory's vic darchinyan never properly impressed me. his power and strange style to me just made me think he was just a hustler, not really looking to trade or box but just land and shuffle away. but a good puncher or a good technician should be able to beat him. and his wins (and bull draw) over gorres, kirilov, mijares showed he was thinking more outside the box than i previously thought. and was just beaten to the punch against mares. sakio bika. back when people where calling him "biker" saw him against bayer, thought he did very well, used his inside abiltys well and then backed off and didnt smother himself when bayer came in strong. and unlucky because of the headbutt. then fights calzaghe in calzaghe's chance at impressing the u.s. after the lacy win...didnt happen bika used all his grit and determination. which while he was thoroughly outboxed he did made it a very tough scrap for a very good lineal titlist. then sort of dissappeare dback to australia then reappered with upcoming fighter bute. and was absolutely pissed on. lookd and fought limited and unprepared for a boxing match. thought it was all over for him. he was found out and that he just wasn't proficient enough to get near the top. then his impressive wins in the contender, the first season to have some truly world class contenders. and has put on good performances ever since. ok the hiccup against mendy was bad...but still his fight with ward gave a lot of people confidence in wards ability but also that bika is a true world class contender. improved a lot uses his jab effectively his inside ability is more proficient. just seems more rounded and dangerous a fighter. on a tiny scale there is a guy called adrien broner. showed alot of throwing abilty but seemed to not know what he was doing. HUGE wide stance, span his shoulders to punch, like he was waggling his arms in front of him and over threw with his jab. but unbeaten and outspoken, he got on to espn against fernando quintero. and after 2 good rounds of flashy combos quintera broke through and walked him down. then as broner started to clock that he was getting pushed out on the cards he started to do slappy leonard stlye combos to guinteros gloves which quintero then changed tactics and used his range to land leads left and rights when he was cemented to the ground. VERY lucky to get a win out of it. looked like he had a lot of style but pretty much no substance. he just looks bad and exposable. then he fights willie kickett who even though shaky didnt look like broner would trouble him that much. just an unbeaten u.s. prospect that kickett coudl get a win to get back on track. but even though kickett was outboxing him broner seemed to land the crisper shots.....BUT THOSE DAMN FEET. the guy looks like he landed mid way while doing a star jump. as glen mccrory said "he has everything uptop but everything under his waist is a disaster, such a wide stance...". but now he seems to be much better. quicker by foot too and from the target changes positioning and enabled to throw left and right hands accordingly.
that fat drunken city fan in english and baby blue football kit regalia proclaiming "ricky's gonna knock him out with a right hook" comment on satanta was pretty funny. yeah ignore those peeps they are heartfelt and have love for the fighter but don't understand what the others have in his division.
