Listen here kid, I can bench 12 hay bales skewered on a street sign pole on the floor of my barn. The weight you’re pushing isn’t functional for real life.

I did this in my barn, if that helps.

NOTE: Anthony Joshua won a 2012 revival of this competition, but I didn't find it on the above website.

EDIT: Anthony Joshua competed in sprinting and slightly longer distance events at the 2012 competition, along with weird and pointless stuff like archery. His sprint score is reported here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gi...t-back-in-2012-shows-how-much-pace-he-has/amp

Just like our hunter gatherer paleo-ancestors used to do.

Assuming the website I cited was accurate, let's consider Jerry Quarry. We can deduce a couple things from the stats...

First off: Quarry competed twice, in 1974 and 1975. He's apparently weirdly good at golf and bowling, but we'll ignore that.

In 1974, Quarry lifts 210 pounds (I assume it's pounds and not kilograms.). I believe that would be a jerk or push press. I doubt he's trained in the technique for that, but who knows. Quarry later puts up 200 in 1975, so he's pretty consistent.

Quarry does a 2:38.00 half mile run in 1975. He doesn't show up in the 1974 half mile run top 5 at all, but the 5th best person that year got a 2:30.80, so I guess Quarry might have been consistent in the half mile as well. At the least, 1974 Quarry was slower than 2:30.80.

1974 had a hundred yard dash event in two initial heats and then a final heat. Quarry doesn't show up in the list of top people in either of the initial heats. The slowest top person in those heats was at 13.06, so Quarry must have been slower than that. How much slower? We don't know.

He also does OK in the bike races, but I don't think that event translates over time. There are a lot more events and performances, but again, I don't think they're as commonly used when trying to measure raw fitness across different sports, because many are skill dependent.

I leave the other boxers' performances, and comparisons among them, as an exercise to the reader.

Also, for some reason their Larry Holmes entry links to "Ernie Holmes." Dunno what's up there.
