I think that if we got the film these days it'd be a sappy piece with little substance.

Good call! Randy's life story could make a great movie! I think that one should be done chronologically, rather than through flashbacks.

Danny Lopez which actually was in discussions and then an insulting offer was made to him and his wife so they dropped it.

    Bobby Chacon
    Matthew Saad Muhammad
    Alexis Arguello
    Ruben Olivares
Carlos Zárate (humble beginnings, quiet humble guy makes it to the top, then loses it all is down and out, recovers and is an inspiration to others)

That’s a great idea. Multiple main characters and life stories converging at different climatic points - that would totally work for me. Get that one in the can, asap!

Strangely, as much as I am a fan of boxing, I’m not necessarily a fan of boxing films - perhaps the sport and its participants are more difficult to translate into a compelling film - and I’m not a big fan of choreographed fight scenes - not matter how well done, they always seems to fall well short of the real thing - and exaggerating punch impact and facial damage does nothing to pull up the slack - it just serves to make it seem less real.

Conversely, I don’t really follow baseball but it’s a great subject matter for movie treatment with great integration of action scenes - Eight Men Out, Field of Dreams, Major League, The Natural, Bull Durham etc.

Craig 'Gator' Bodzianowski? Now that could make for a similar to the original Rocky movie insofar as getting a shot and losing. Having maybe ron howard onboard to butter up his hardships before the grand finale title shot. Also helps that not many know what he looks like so the actor chosen wouldnt be getting compared lookswise to the person, which i believe that many would do, consciously or subconsciously, to a movie of a more famous fighter

Carnera? He was awful, nothing in his career to make a movie about and he was ugly as hell who the hell could play him? Most of his lines would be in Italian.

He didn`t do much in his career other than beat Robi then lose the rematch, his life was sad though and I read part of his autobio so that could be a good movie, sad ending though, he tried to kill his daugter and then killed himself, he also had learning difficulties and spoke badly.

This guy from Demons 2 would have been ideal for the role of Hagler, think he`s too old now though, lol

You have Janis Joplin as your avatar and insult Carnera's looks?

At university, Janis was voted the ugliest man on campus. True.
