Did anyone collect these boxers series? It was monthly or every two weeks I think and it started in around 1997 and lasted around a year or two. You used to get a video and a little magazine dedicated to one particular fighter. Most decent newsagents sold them. The first one was Ali, and Frazier was the fourth edition. They were class and one of the main things that sucked me into boxing. If not, I'll get me coat
Yeah mate I bought quite a few of them. They are kinda what got me into boxing too. For certain fighters (Ali and Robinson spring to mind) they would release two different editions. They were quality for their day. Just done a quick check; I have Robinson I & II, Tunney, Dempsey, Ali I, Frazier, Holmes, Foreman, Marciano, Turpin, Tyson, Louis & Jack Johnson. There is a couple more laying around that I can't find; I know I bought the Duran one as well.
Yea, I remember these, I brought the Tyson one and that's what got me into boxing (well sort of). They're reguarly on ebay but they go for a fair price.
Yeah, I was only around 13 or 14 at the time but I managed to get most of them. I got the jimmy Ellis one off Amazon a few years ago and felt obliged to sit through Ellis-Quarry......hard work. The fight videos were a bit average cause the footage had to be 45 minutes long so they often lumped in a long fight and not necessairily their best ones. On Frazier they showed him losing to Ali in Manilla with a few clips of their first fight. However, they released a special Olympic one which had Frazier-Ellis, Lyle-Foreman, Patterson-Rademacher. Probably the best one out of all of them. Hopefully they do release a similar thing for the younger people cause they were great little things
I had the lot on video but sold them on Ebay when the DVD versions came out. Now I have all the DVDs, theres loads there that I've never watched but I'll work my way though them eventually.
Always remember Julius Francis on the speedball at the start of the videos and in between the fights. The narrator was class as well.
So you had footage of all these great fighters but your outstanding memory was of Julius 'polo mint ear' Francis doing his thing with a speedball? Thats some crazy ****
Got- Duran v Buchanan Buchanan v Laguna I (somewhere!) Paul Pender Arguello v Olivares Marcel Cerdan Larry Holmes
How far do they go up to? The last one I got at the time was Arguello edition 40. Then I got Ellis a few years ago - just the video mind.
