I also think many fighters who’ve been beat by a man tend to pick that individual over everyone...Ali I believe picked Norton and Frazier to beat Foreman before they fought unless I’m remembering incorrectly
Prime for prime I pick Johnson seven days a week. Johnson was a cautious performer he took few chances.I think he could have got Jeffries out of there a lot earlier had he been prepared to go for it. Fitzsimmons ,a big Jeffries booster thought so too.
Tried to find other fighters' predictions for the first Schmeling-Louis fight but didn't see much other than Braddock picking Louis. The sportswriters of course were unanimous in not giving Schmeling a chance at all.
Seems like Jack Dempsey sort of picked Braddock over Louis: "And then he paused long enough to inject his private opinion of Louis. 'A great fighter must have three things--a fighting heart and the ability to give and take it. Louis can give it but he can't take that right hand punch and he doesn't have the fighting heart. He is not the greatest fighter in the world today and is not a real champion. Jim Braddock, if he sails in like Schmeling did,can whip Louis.'" Source: Felix R.
