Reading though a June 94 KO and an article came up where (then) modern fighters named their heroes; some of course are pretty cliche, some a bit more interesting:

    Vinny Pazienza: Ali and Duran...

    Orlando Canizales: Duran and Arguello

Kevin Kelley: Matt (Franklin) Saad Muhammad

    Joey Gamache: Hector Camacho (Snr!)

Roy Jones: Leonard, indeed Jones said they sparred in 88.

    Genaro Hernandez: Carlos Zarate

    Charles Murray: Aaron Pryor

    James (Buddy) McGirt: Robinson

    Michael Carbajal: Arguello

    James Toney: Hearns

    Harold Brazier: Duran

    Freddie Pendleton: Robinson

    Michael Bentt: Ali

Yeah? That is interesting. What's your take on Rocky, JG? I find him interesting because there´s clearly more to him than one sees at first glance.

well he himself was not a great head movement fighter but anyone can see why he was up there, not saying he didnt deserve to be admired by sugar, just didnt know he was one of sugar's idols.

Another note, Bobo olson at one point decided to try copy Ray's style after one of their bouts because he was so impressed, he decided he could not make it work.

Tyson had lots of heroes from the old days, Dempsey, Liston, Chocolate, Basilio, Robinson, Fullmer, Louis (who he thought was greatest HW), Ali and a lot more but cant remember them all, he had a long list.
