Maybe wrong forum… with the Paris 2024 Olympics round the corner, what top amateur boxers are looking ready to shine?
Maybe the bigger question should be how many pros will return to try to win gold again? Will Jalolov try to become a two-time super heavyweight gold medal winner? Technically, he probably could. He was a pro before the last Olympics. I don't know if there's anything preventing him from doing it again.
Pacquiao is trying to qualify. A lot of countries are accepting pros in their national teams these days. Cuba is having the same squad they had in the last few games. La Cruz, Arlen Lopez, Roniel Iglesias, Lazaro Alvarez, all very good but they lost their only champ at the 2023 World Amateur Championship (Yoenlis Hernandez who defected). The Uzbeks have a strong team with a lot of young blood, the same for the Kazaks who are probably sending Aslanbek Shymbergenov for the first time, he has been an elite and underrated amateur for years. USA Boxing always ends up with a solid team. They have Robby Gonzales (World Amateur Champ) and Omari Jones (World Amateur Silver).
