You know what they say: No such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners. Don't know how true it is. I've got 3 Cocker Spaniels myself, no problem at all.
Huh. Gotcha, thanks for the details. Then again, that was less taboo then it is today with the likes of Dateline and other shows. Eh.
Best thread i ever read on ESB, i never logged on even after 1-2 years reading it. Great thread, awesome information etc, went off topic but hey, at least it was around page 8 and not post 4 :happy Keep the stories coming pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :good Hairy :bbb
What about this welterweight champ Jordan? In "in this corner" he said he killed people for a living? It´s a while since I read it but he would fit in here quite well I think - if he wasn´t already mentioned.
Didn't Gerrie Coetzee shoot a man outside a night club a few years ago over a very heated arguement? Ill try and find the article.
I remember reading about Oliver McCall after he beat Lennox Lewis. I guess he was walking in a bad neighborhood and the cops stopped him. They asked who he was and he said "I'm Oliver McCall, heavyweight champion of the world." They didn't know who the hell he was, and decided to search him. They found the check for a couple million dollars in his pocket from the boxing commission.
In the Sugar Ray Robinson book, Pound for Pound, it says that Muhammad Ali took his wife (don't remember which one) into the bathroom and beat the **** out of her. Apparently he did this because her skirt was too high and when he tried to pull it farther down to cover her legs, it ripped. I remember Larry Holmes pretty much calling Ali a manwhore one time too :-( Another one, which might not be entirely true, is Mike Tyson pretending to help an old lady with her groceries out of some building. When they were in the elevator together Tyson beat the **** out of her and stole her money. (this one is iffy because it was in Atlas's book and Atlas obviously hates Tyson) One thats quite embarrassing but not really so horrible is Jack Monroe, a heavyweight who fought Jeffries and Johnson, lied and said he knocked down and had a draw with Jeffries. Later Jeffries paid Monroe a visit and laid him out in 2 rounds but the sad part is it's still common belief that Monroe did this in my hometown. They even named a street after him! atsch
That episode was confirmed in Ali's biography 'The Greatest.' When Robinson tried to intervene, Ali apparently shouted "Ray, you ain't nothin' but a middleweight!"
I read that as well. As an aside gangsters Blinky Palermo,Frankie Carbo and Louis Dragna each received lengthy prison sentences for extortion when they tried to muscle in on Don Jordan's contract.Jordan's testimony played a large part in putting them away. For someone who boasted of being an assassin Jordan ended up being murdered himself after being violently assaulted during a robbery. What goes around.....
Carlos Monzon regularly used to beat up his wife and mistresses, and also the paparrazi who came to take snaps of him. He got shot in the leg by his wife after one incident. He remarried, then had one violent argument too many and threw his 2nd wife off a balcony to her death. He fell with her but survived, injuring his shoulder, before being jailed. He showed no remorse at the trial.
Oh yeah, how can I forget this one: Jack Johnson was jailed for 1 year for "transporting women across state lines for immoral purpose". Remember that next time you accuse a boxing judge of being crooked
