    Hey up Greynotsoold,

I tend to agree with the above regarding proffessional boxing.

Do you think the above applies to amatuer boxing?

And, do you think "bouncing" is a "wasted motion" at all times or do you think on some occassions, under some circumstances, it can be useful ?

Would like to hear your opinions.

    Cheers,

    Rich.

You know, the little shifting of weight with a slight hop. Or the boxers shuffle. Kind of like skipping rope.

But wouldn't you say it's based on the style and conditioning of the fighter? I mean guys like Ali and Leonard moved like this almost seemlessly. It seemed to suit their style.

Of course you would never advocate a guy like Foreman wasting energy in this manner, so I think it depends on the fighter. Or am I wrong?

I agree with lefty on economy but i just dont like skipping and turning closer to the right hand that way anymore, your feet are too tied up to support any movements or good punches from the right hand, leaves you with just a jab and a shadey left hook really. if you can fight both southpaw and orthadox i dont think its as bad, you can get the crazey angles working for you then rather than against you.

It has it's place, you react quicker than if you where to be standing flat footed; but at the same time I wouldn't encourage someone to bounce around like Pacquiao.
It's part of getting a rhythm and footwork
