is it right that they should ?....i am asking the question here rather than giving my opinion...
cotto proved his worth last night...but did he deserve that shot at that title, without a warm up fight at 154? and coming off a loss for a wbo title at a lower weight, however good the man he lost to was ??

No reason why not. These days people get a title shot just by beating a bunch of scrubs, so why shouldn't someone who has lost to an actual good fighter get one?

Exactly, and this is boxing, once you've been at the top long enough you really don't have to "earn" a shot at anything. Opportunities like this are just handed to you. These worthless titles don't mean all that much anyway so I'm not going to sit here complaining about who earns his shot at what.

WELL, by winning Cotto showed us that he deserved it! I could see your point if Cotto would've bee outclassed or something like that, but not with his performance last night

If he can win it, why not? Yuri was due a voluntary defence, he rolled the die and he lost.

especially after a loss to guys like Pacquiao yes
facing the p4p #1 (or two whatever) is a mile more meaningful then those corrupt belts

As long as the fighter has a good name recognition, he can go and fight for a title right away. Money talks here.

This, how can he not deserve the shot if he proved he deserved it by winning?

I think the word "Don King" could clarify how things are going on today. I'm not implying that King has something to do with Cotto VS Foreman, I just mean Don King and his ways of manipulating the ranks :D

well, i know how things are.....but i am asking....as a rule of thumb....should a boxer who lost in a wbo fight at a lower weight challenge for a wba title at a higher weight in his next fight ?
i know cotto proved himself, but the question isnt really about cotto...its asking if its right that he got the shot at it right away, or a boxer in his position...

  15. Considering that there is about 9 world titles available at each weight these days then it's not unreasonable.
