all I know is most bouncers tell me that boxers are the only people who worry them. As big as they are they know they cannot aford to take an unwraped fist off them.

thats not to say a boxer minding his own business cannot get ambushed by some joe public when he's not ready. The most ridiculous thing I ever heard was when eamonn magee was base ball batted by a gang that nearly finished his career and people were saying being a boxer did not help him?

providing the boxer is sober and ready, joe public has no chance on the street against any boxer or expert of competative combat sports. It is a mismatch.

I remember reading that the night Gatti died, that he and his wife were arguing in the street and some guy stepped in.

In his news quote, the guy said "...he hit me 5 or 6 times before I knew what happened."

So even two years out of the ring, weight gain and drinking and Gatti was whipping Joe Public's ass without a problem.

Of course Gatti was probably enraged to a level that only a woman can incite in a man working

Talk about picking the wrong guy to **** with!:rofl

Every once in a while, a boxer will make a mistake or get taken from behind, or even by a gang, and lose. But you can bet that for every incident like that, there are ten more where the boxer's came out on top.

it was a gang leader with a bat, who came with backup. it amounts to the same thing. magee took his beating and returned to the ring to prove they hadn't retired him. magee is one tough dude. it would have killed a joe public or at least gave him a mental breakdown.

Did you ever see Gatti on Pro's vs Joe's, where he was beating the **** out of big near 200 pound jocks?:lol:

He tore through 3 of them in a row, he was enjoying himself. He was supposed to go fairly easy on them, as Pernell Whitaker did on the show. I guess Gatti didn't get the hint, or give a ****.

So disinterested you'll make statements about how a boxer performs under their influence though, right? :-:)lol:

If you don't know jack **** about them and even declare it, then don't act like you know how formidable a man coked out of his ****ing brain is.

What exactly happened to Magee? I did hear about it, forgot the details. I remember I felt for him.

I was just assuming that a highly trained fighter could still look after himself against some mug off the street even under the influence of illicit substances and booze.

Besides which I'm not looking for excuses why it happened just other examples of it happening to other fighters. As I stated at the start of the thread there is a heap of examples of boxers kicking arse in the street just not so many of the opposite happening.

I'm not saying Hatton can't fight,he most assuredly can but what happened to him must at least be unusual which is why I wanted to hear some more instances of it happening to other boxers.

I didn't mean to annoy you.

As messed up as Hatton was I find it hard to believe some muscle head with slow arm punches could roundhouse Ricky. A boxer for the most part knows how to get hit and hit in return. Arturo Gatti was strangled but earlier in the night he beat up 7 guys in a fight while drunk and Arturo had a problem with nose candy also, the same girl that had him killed freaked with his mind the week of the Mayweather fight and he went on a coke Bing, reminds me of Samson and Delilah. I know a lot of fighters that wrecked guys on the street it is from continued practice. It is rare a street guy especially a muscle head can beat a man who knows how to fight.

    Exactly.

I remember a now deceased Australian heavyweight called Craig Peterson was jailed for bashing a rugby league player and his Dad (an ex rugby league player) at the end of a three day alcohol and drug bender.Peterson was so wasted he couldn't even recall doing it but he severely beat up two presumably big, strong men all whilst not in any control of his faculties.

Examples like this are why I find it highly unusual and interesting to hear about boxers coming off second best in the street against anyone.

    Did I say that??

But as you said yourself for every time a boxer comes off second best you can find ten examples of them coming out well on top outside the ring.

It's those rare occasions that they don't come out on top that to me are interesting.

    Is that clear enough?
