one thing stands out for me $11 million for ruiz against jones i mean come on give me a ****ing break
how much do you think a boxer would take home from 3 million after every one has taken out there cut? $500,000?
the sport needs a union body or something where everyone who fights gets a minumum based off on years in the sport and on accomplishments. for example a scale for veterans after 5 years- and how many fights, wins, etc. the better you are the more you get paid-- the money being levelled out amongst everyone. so if you are a certain level- your guaranteed a undercard on a ppv event and a certain amount of coin- and of course some kind of retirement package for people who fight for more than 8 years, or 30 fights, etc. of course there is a greater chance of roger mayweather giving up the crack than this happening. i just feel sorry for these guys- who are the most humble, hard working, blue collar, big hearted guys out there- with incredible talent. while guys that shoot up bars, and simply run 50 m a game in the nfl and take drugs and go strip clubs- earn 4 million a year for doin **** all. it all comes down to support. we gotta support this sport-and the sport needs to televise and hold more events for grassroots fighters- and low level , young fighters- so that there can be a middle class, born into the sport. fight night club is onto the right track with this. if there was one in every major city, like ny, la, chi, washinotn, etc- and even london- and they were all linked up and rotated each week- the sport would start to get its act together- like what the mma is doing. you can guarantee when you turn on mma each week at a certain time you ll get a fight. boxing needs to calender itself- and have a base- then the ppv is an addition to that. firday night fights isnt enough. anyway- thats my spiel at playing if i was oscar de la hoya for a day. i just love this sport man. seeing how little these guys make is pitiful. i also like dancing- and the best breakdancers int he world- are even poorer . the top guys in the world make like 100 000 a year. . skaters make more than boxers now- what the **** is that??
yeah- and i wonder how much a figther really takes home after everything is paid for, entourages, marketing, trainers, etc. i mean trainers alone take 10 percent- cut men 5 percent, and it goes on.... can somebody with knowledge break down a typical analasyis of where the money goes out of a fighters purse??
noticed that, watched some of the fight the other day and Merchant said Ruiz would make between $1 and 2 mil from what I remember Judah took short money because he knew he'd beat Spinks and was hoping to line up paydays down the rode as undisputed welterweight champ
You can see this when you see the purses for the undercards of a major fight. I remember them talking about it, in I think, a Hopkins fight. The undercards were making only 10% of 1% of Hopkin's purse... (Hopkins getting 5million, undercard getting 5K) I have a documentary on this promoter bringing up Briggs as a new Heavyweight. They were explaining how they basically paid Briggs a salary to live and train for his first "x" amount of fights. His fights were not making any money...and Brigg's opponents would often get paid more than Briggs himself (As the opponents demanded more money as they basically understood that they were gonna get KO'd). Still we are talking of less than 1K.
Friday Night Fights main eventers don't usually earn more than 25k. Glen Johnson made just 12k for his recent win over Mack!
