Very disappointing to see a good fight night end up a shambles with both boxers, Colomban and Tukes, unable to maintain a decent footing on a very large plasticised square advertising sign which took up the bulk of the ring area.

After a few rounds both fighters tried to restrict their footing to the outside perimeter of the ring and both finished the fight with their boots off.

Andy Raymond made the comment that before the fights he had asked Barry Michael if they had tested the surface to make sure it was safe and he had replied " NO ".

This seems to have been a recurring problem in recent times and boxing authorities should take some action.

Boxers and their trainers should make it clear to promoters of their concerns and refuse to fight in a ring that is unsafe.

    Any thoughts gentlemen ?

Absolute joke. Not being able to use 75% of the ring safely. Amateur hour. Aussie boxing is looking like a joke lately. What a **** card too should have sticked too watching the ****wits on American Idol.

There is sign writing paint specifically for this purpose that i know promoters use, that has grip and is safe, and that can be sign written to an excellent finish and effect. This attempt or non-attempt is just amateur.

Bring back resin trays. That's the only reason downed boxer needs to have gloves wiped. Unsure why refs still do it?

..advertising on the ring canvas has been the one of the biggest safety issues in boxing for years..long overdue that it should be banned outright..

Do that & promoters will need to increase admission. They just need to make sure appropriate paint is used & whoever supplies the ring must also supply resin tray in each corner.
I believe stick-on logo was used. Such is technology these days I guess, but one that needs ditching.
If it causes boxers or ref serious injury, promoter could have serious legal issues.

    simple fix..do a risk assessment..
..then we'll be back to a barearse canvas..something that a fighter can dig into..
..they're just gunna have to find advertising space else where..time to put the fighters OH&S first..

In my days with Ringside Promotions in Adelaide @ ABCOS Stadium, I can only recall one occasion & only one boxer with problems & that was due to his much loved old & worn boots. Problem was short lived as we had resin tray in his corner.

Maybe they never heard of Anti Slip Coating? Councils know all about it. They use it on pedestrian crossings

In boxing, something stupid or humerus happens all over the world..
Most humerus to date was in Fiji, where a boxer, busting for a ****, jumped the ropes after a round & made a run for it. Unfortunately, he had to unload more than he thought & never made it back in time to answer the bell for next round.:lol:
