WK about Haye: "A year ago, I didn't know his name", Klitschko said. "People told me that he'd been an undisputed cruiserweight champion but I must've missed it. And suddenly, a year later, he wants to be in the ring against me." i dont think he's joking either. i like WK, hes a gent as well as a top champion, but i cant understand a boxer not knowing the other top athletes in their profession - especially one that is in the weight class just below. i suppose its either a lack of love for the sport, or complete single mindedness on his own career - disappointing either way.
he's just pretending he doesn't know him... so the opponent would think he's underestimating him... it's all about mindgames
Boxers have done this for years Champion "Who is such and such contender? Ive never heard of contender A, and now he wants to fight me. Why should I fight Contender A?"
Toney "Hopkins will easily beat Calzaghe", "Rahman will beat Wlad", "I will be undisputed HW champion by late 2009"... Yeah...some boxers are less than knowledeable.
Taylor doesn't know **** about boxing....at one boxing community gather or something they were giving prizes to some fighters and Taylor was there. They called up Manny Pacquiao to present him something and they announced him as p4p no 1 and Taylor went like:''Who this little man?I never heard of him'' That is kinda disrespectfull to me.
Allso many boxers prediction of other fights come out completely wrong! Hatton said Khan would beat Prescott ect.
Khan could have beaten Prescott - if he hadn't let his ego get to him. Getting taken the full ten to an SD by a journeyman is hardly good form..... if it had worked it would have been a clever move by Sports Network, silencing the doubters that say Khan cannot deal with a puncher (even though 17/19, now 18/20) is largely superficial.
Whilst we are on the subject, note this pattern: If boxer A loses to boxer B and beats C, he seemingly invariably favors C (whether in general or in future match-ups or when C v B occurs). There must be exceptions, but it has me rolling my eyes. I never trust what fighters say about each other in the ring, because they always have an agenda that favors their ego.
If a boxer A is beaten by boxer B, badly, he will often pick boxer C to win. If the fight is close and hardfought, he would pick boxer B, conversely.
