Boxers lacking in amateur experiance????

    I saw a similar thread to this just wondering about fighters with bad am or limited amateur experience who went on to reasonable success as pros????

    I know of

    Johnny Nelson
    Ola Afolabi
    Librado Andrade

    And a few others but who do u kno of

    Roberto Duran had under 20 am fights. James Toney didnt have much more. Dwight Muhammad Qawi had zero am fights.

    I guess amateur fights enable the fighters to learn without getting their beaks busted for real. When you can experiment and try out moves in an actual fight with less possibility of getting hurt real bad because of the head gear and pillow gloves you tend to learn a lot.

    I'd hazard to say the great ones with little amateur seasonings did it the harder way.

    Tim Witherspoon only had like 4 amateur fights. Bonecrusher Smith had limited amateur experience too.

    I read somewhere a long time ago that JCC Sr. did have short amateur career. Like 15 fights or so.
