Some Boxing Coaches are centuries behind coaches in other sports when it comes to training methods.

MMA was the only combat sport where EVERYBODY was open minded to new training techniques.

Swimming, Bags & Pads for Conditioning
Olympic Lifts & Strongman Training for Strength, Agility & Endurance

    Scrap everything else.

Thing that gives you your power of Punch, is the Floor its knowing how to use it.

Hi Scrap, hope you're well mate! ;-)

What do you mean by knowing how to use the floor?

By the way, I still use your tip about the balance being in the eyes. As soon as I remember that, I keep my balance!

Hi, What moves the body, is the environment you are in, the body reacts through touch and feel, eg when swimming, its the water that moves you, when Boxing its the floor. What we are basically learning any Sport, through touch and feel is how to adapt to Gravity, through posture, and Balance, it starts from your Feet. If they are wrong, everything is, theres nothing working as it should, joints, muscles ligaments, plus the Brain is not getting the correct signals .

So Jeffries was bonkers when he ran all those miles every single day? Are you saying he could have had been even better then the bull-like stamina he already possessed?

I have to disagree. I find the "new school" of training as tyrannical as what they claim the "old school" is in their training beliefs. When it comes down to it do what works for you and tried and true old school techniques like good old fashion running can never do a fighter wrong or at least are a very good place to start.

I struggle to find the carryover of olympic lifts and strongman with Boxing. Have you ever tried olympic lifting? It is a very technical sport and requires a lot of time and commitment to excel at. It's not like someone can go do an olympic lifting session in the am then go do a full boxing routine in the pm as well as roadwork, swimming, or whatever. That's too much on the body and requires proper rest and recovery.

Shadow boxing with the intent to punch as hard as you can increased my power by FAR, more than anything else. Doing the same on the heavybag further develops it, but personally that came nowhere near getting power out of shadow Boxing.

Most people tell you not to punch too hard when shadow boxing. I read Joe Louis saying the opposite. I decided to believe Louis. It worked.

Just keep trying to punch harder than your last punch. Eventually you’ll “unlock” mechanics that help you form better techniques for power. And for people who think this is hocus pocus I could care less than the dirt under my shoe.

Agree - it's also a risk vs reward issue. As you noted, O lifts (snatch and clean-and-jerk) are VERY technical; technique has to be flawless. The best athletes have to train these for years to become proficient. The reward is certainly there - their quickness/explosiveness is remarkable - but for an athlete outside of Olympic lifting, there are better, more specific methods of gaining these qualities, with less risk of injury.

Also, I find the testing on long distance running and Alzheimer's results interesting. As regards brain damage and old Boxers. When you have 6 kg bouncing onto the top 4 vertebrata, and shortening the spine, cant be good.
