This is something that I haven't been able to figure out, heavy weights tend to make much more than the lighter weights even thou the lighter guys tend to put on the much better shows and "wars". Boxing is really an entertainment bussiness isn't it? Shouldn't the better entertainers make the better money? Thoughts/opinions:?

Those who sell more pay per views and arenas make the biggest moneys. So because heavyweight match ups tend to sell more, they get the biggest purses.

Fighters usually get paid based on their ability to generate money and not their ability to fight. Which is obviously not always directly proportional to how exciting you are. In fact some fighters that not only have a reputation for not being exciting, but damn near the epitome of boredom, have been able to make outstanding money, for whatever reason that might be.

not sure if this still holds.

byrd/ruiz etc etc did ok money but nothing special, unless fighting an american marquee name whereas someone as boring a style as sven ottke got paid way more for a routine defense v a tomato .

in europe you get paid on your marquee value and not your weight.

with the lull in talented american heavy`s this also appears to be happening in america as well, albeit not much below featherweight.

Obviously your ability to bring in fans/ratings helps.

The real money nowadays is from television, mainly those HBO contracts.
