It is but top tier boxers tend to be genetically gifted already. For example, I'm sure that Lennox Lewis with the right type of training, could have performed a 600, 700 or even 800 pound deadlift, especially weighing 250 pounds and considering the fact that he's physically gifted anyway. If Holyfield just focused on bodybuilding, I'm highly confident he wins some titles.

Long arms make powerlifting more difficult.

Maybe this is one fantasy matchup where Marciano wins out over the big men. Heh.

Depends on the lift. Long arms are better for deadlifts. But you can still have a good bench with long arms

Yes but a person who could make a career out of being a strong man woudl be somebody like Tom Stoltman.

Weirdly, his legs lack the aesthetics of his upper body, even though they're the part of him that was truly gifted (given his track career). He'd probably be struggling in bodybuilding as a result.

Yes. Came here to say Mike Weaver!! Ken Norton, who had quite the build himself, nicknamed Michael Hercules because of his body!

except Norton named Mike Weaver Hercules because he said Weaver was the one with the perfect physique.

Weaver definitely has the bodybuilder look. Wonder if he was one of the first boxers to hop on anabolics?

I don’t think George Foreman ever messed with weights (or at least not seriously) but there’s a photo of a young George carrying a cow over his shoulders (I am not making this up) and of course he did the thing where he hauled a pickup around his backyard by hooking it with a rope and pulling it along as he walked.

Bodybuilder? No. But danged if he didn’t have the natural raw strength to make a dent in weightlifting if he gotten turned onto that at an earlier age and added years of weight training to his already superhuman-ish strength.

Galento is being brought up as a joke multiple times in this thread but his forearms, traps and quads were massive. It's just that his fat covered up his muscularity to an extent, similarly to this guy for example:

Carnera was an actual strongman so he'd make the best powerlifter of the bunch, and given his physique he'd probably be the best bodybuilder too.
Cleveland Williams, Jersey Joe Walcott, Jim Jeffries, Ken Norton and Mike Tyson had impressive physiques.
