I'd say Grand Rapids is worse than Wichita.....easily.

David sometimes statistics are misleading, ive looked at a lot of those crime statistics and they only tell of the city on a whole.

For instance there are places in LA far worst than cities that have higher crime rates per 100,000,that is because there are some affluent and middle class neighborhoods that bring the crime rate down, but if you look at the stats on certain police divisions in LA there homicide and violent crime rates are even higher than even Compton,Richmond,Detroit etc. Im sure the same with NY where the crime rate is low, but if you go to some places like Bed Stuy,Brownsville,South Bronx bet you there almost of just as dangerous as anyplace in America. For instance the citie where i grew up the City on a whole is pretty much the average rate as the US, but the varrio where i lived was much worse than the rest of the city and was a dangerous place to live, unlike the other side which was average, the homicide rate was alittle higher than the National average but all the killings were on one side of town, so in reality it was a real dangerous area. Get what i mean?

Ever read the book "Always Running" by Luis Rodriguez? Thats my old neighborhood.

Shane grew up in a decent area of Pomona. At least that's what his parents said on one of those HBO Countdowns.

There's okay parts of basically any city that isn't really tiny. Oakland and Richmond are horrible, but I know some people from there who live in decent parts of those cities.

The Oakland Hills are nice. My cop friend used to call me all the time when he worked that beat because he was so bored and used to all the action in other areas.

about 80% of Pomona is Rough...the best part is Phillips Ranch but the people that live there will not admit to living in Pomona..

In So Cal saying you live in Pomona is almost like saying you live in East LA.

Yey well i can believe Shane grew up in a decent part, I once had the same employer as Shanes dad and even the lowest paying jobs are pretty decent. I was just stating that most of Pomona is far from middle class and has some bad areas comparable to the inner city, i know that cause i live fairly close, and my cousin is a cop over there.
As for Richmond i didnt know they had nice areas, although i know Oakland actually has a some upper class areas.

Actually those numbers are tame compared to the 70s up to the late 90s. Use to average like 11 to 14 homicides in a city of only 50,000 and most of those were in Lomas population probably 15,000. Do the math? Ill have to admit all the Asians moving in it and the Raza moving out calmed the neighborhood down:patsch:lol::-(

Youngstown is a strange place. Mafia has been pretty well subdued, but a lot of the strife was between the Pittsburgh and Cleveland crime families fighting for control. Cars used to blow up a lot. Unless you went to them for gambling, prostitutes, whatever, you were outside their concern. Now it is gangs and drugs. For the most part, you stay clear of that and they don't seem to bother with you. Most murders are drug/gang related.

I think Kelly may be more a product of the "Boy Named Sue" syndrome. Just my guess. His parents still live in the same place so I guess they aren't that worried about the area because the could certainly afford to move now. A lot of different ethic groups, old country influence, lower working class, but very good sense of community in that area.

What happened to the guy telling us the horror stories about Wichita, KS? I live across the bridge from Richmond, CA (looks like they like to rob and kill there)....so here's how "bad" Wichita, KS is (looks like they're into **** out there):

    http://www.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=richmond&s1=CA&c2=wichita&s2=KS

That doesn't make me hard, or make him weak, it just makes that little rant he went on funny.

Yea, originally from Brownsville, which produces a who's who of fighters. Maybe the worst projects in the states, and I think he grew up there till he was 14.
