Well Maryland is a state. It's largest city is Baltimore which is a REALLY rough town, but the part of maryland where Lenord is from isn't what you would call "the ghetto".

James Toney had it pretty good, he was a pretty highly recruited high school quarterback I believe. He just went into boxing instead because he's James ****ing Toney. Barrera's about the only one I've ever heard who was actually pretty affluent, as opposed to just not being that poor. And by extension his brother Jorge I suppose...

What about Botha and Sanders? Growing up in South Africa in the 60s I can imagine them growing up on a huge plantation with black slaves.

:patsch Man what do you know about Pomona?

There are a couple decent parts but about 60% of Pomona is gang infested and a pretty tough town. I should know i live about 10 minutes from there.
Crime rate there is higher than most of the US, especially gang violence.

Ive heard that Youngstown is a pretty tough area with a lot of crime, Also for being a somewhat small city they sure have had a lot of world champs.

Damn. People seem extremely confused as to where the rough neighborhoods in America are located. Juan Diaz was brought up well, good family life, etc. But as far as the AREA? The HOUSTON area? So far we have people in this thread who think Youngstown, Flint, and now HOUSTON are safe cities. Holy ****! What's next? Andre Ward came from the suburbs? The Peterson brothers grew up in an all white city? Bernard Hopkins learned to box in the Police Athletic League? Johnny Tapia grew up in a mansion, born to a mom who went to Harvard and a dad that went to Yale? Folks, boxers come from bad lives, bad backgrounds. That's why they are FIGHTERS. THEY GET PAID TO FIGHT FOR CHRIST SAKES!
