Pomona is relatively safe. I guess it depends on who you are and what you consider safe. Compared to a city like Richmond, CA (just for example, also minutes away from myself):

Richmond has about 4 times the forcible ****, 4 time the murder rate, nearly twice the robbery rate, twice the vehicle theft rate, and significantly higher rates in aggravated assault, burglary, and larceny thefts. All facts. Don't get me wrong, Richmond is a crime infested city, that's just how Pomona compares.

I think people get confused because some boxers present themselves well. Thats just good parenting and family like you said. Doesnt mean they didnt grow up in a ghetto. Not everyone falls victim.

Like Hendo posted a tourist poster of Grand Rapids, thats supposed to make Grand Rapids look nice. They aint gonna show Division where all the hookers, junkies and hobbos hang out. They aint gonna show murder rate on there.

Dont believe all the statistics i know what im talking about through experience . Used to be alot of murders in Pomona in the 90s and still now although not as bad as before or some other cities.

Go to any Prison in California and Pomona is has at least as much representation as Richmond:yep:yep

Im from LA county and you have some decent suburbs, affluent areas,Blue collar cities, and others like Richmond (see Compton,Ing, and parts of LA) and let me tell you Pomona is a tough town.

Well according to Shane and Jack, he didn't have a rough time growing up:

    Exactly:yep

Look at Oscar who comes from a place where Gangs in his area make most of "THUG AMERICA" look like some ***** ass wannabees.

But if you were to go by his appearence and the way he carries himself youd think he is from a middle or uppermiddle class area.

Ok i knew that Jack worked for the county (like i once did) so was aware that his parents were far from poor. So i guess he grew up in the 1/3 part of Pomona that is pretty decent.

I still stand by what i said Pomona is a tough town and has some rough areas. 4 world champs in a city of 150,000(only recently use to be a lot smaller)

Yeah boxing turns people into polite, humble gentlemen....in most cases. The hideous areas that they rise out of just go to show that you can come from nothing and become something through hard work, determination, and character. Commendable family men and individuals such as Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward, etc. are perfect example of model citizens who overcame heavy odds to get where they're at. That's character.

Anyone who thinks a beautiful shot of a few bloxks in a nice downtown area of a large city is automatically safe is an idiot. Neighborhoods change like night and day in certain areas simply by walking across city limits from one to another. That drastic. Old ladies out watering their gardens, little kids playing in the street, nice houses on one block....hookers, dope dealers, spray painted walls on the very next block.

Now Compton is almost identical statistically with Richmond, and I'm talking MURDER, so it doesn't get much worse than that. Murder statistics don't lie. But there are hundreds of cities with crime rates a hell of a lot lower than Compton or Richmond that still have a few areas, and folks, you don't want to be caught ****ing around with, I know that. Pomona's more comparable to Sacramento, which I KNOW has some ****ed up areas, so I see where you're coming from.

You don't know what you're on about. Since his father was perpetually unemployed, Dempsey had to drop out of grade school to find work. Age 16, he left home cause things were too ****ed up. He traveled around on trains and with hobos, trying to find his way. He made money by wandering around the Rockies, going into mining towns and challenging entire bars to fight him. This was his job, and he wasn't even 20. If that's not hard, I don't know what is. I used to live in Durango, CO, and there's a mural depicting a young Jack Dempsey knocking out a local strongman sometime in the early 1900s. Don't open your mouth if you don't know what you're talking about.
