We often talk about the chin of a boxer and how fast they can get knocked out but who do you guys think were some of the best fighters that recovered from a knockdown? seems to be a lost art these days.

Holyfield would recover from being KOed on his feet, and then go back to win the round

    Duran
    Morales
Marquez (how the hell do you fight so clear-headedly after taking that bomb from Katsidis?)
    Barrera
    Pacquiao
    Leonard
    Holyfield
    Ali
    Frazier
    De La Hoya
    Mosley
    Maidana

Cotto often needs to reset, so he's not great at recovering, but he can still come right back later on in the same round after getting rocked or even dropped.

Mayweather has a solid chin and can recovery well physically, but mentally, it takes him a round or two to figure out what his opponent's doing and then stop it from happening, rather than come right back in spite of it having occurred. Nacho once said "hit him once, and he's fine, but more than 2 or 3 punches, and he loses a step." As amazingly skilled as he is, there's some truth to it when you look at the expressions on his face early on in some of his toughest fights.

He was the first name that jumped to mind when I saw this thread, and an excellent shout out to Maidana.

Sugar Ray Leonard also. I was watching that Lalonde fight today and he recovered from near knockdown and came and got the KO

I disagree. Shane often went into a shell after being hurt. Physically he always recovered well enough, but mentally he always seemed to lose something that he would never get back. His confidence could be easily rattled.

I want to throw Joe Calzaghe's name out there into the mix, though.

I can definitely see what your saying with Shane, but I think this was largely a post-Forrest phenomenon. Before that Mosley did not shy away from getting rocked, as he believed in himself he could outgun anyone he wasn't outboxing, and often tried to play the other man's game to prove a point. Those looks of discouragement and confusion came later, IMO. He ate a monster left hook from DLH and a few good other shots in their first fight that he took fine and still performed well afterwards.

    Slappy Joe's not a bad shout-out.

    JOE.****ING.LOUIS.

He had a good chin, but not granite. He got hurt quite a bit, but he recovered so well, that he often immediately destroyed anyone that hurt him, even as he got fairly faded. Awesome powers of recovery. Mauriello stunned him and stumbled him pretty good in the opening round of their fight, when Louis was nearing the end of his reign. That turned out to be the closing round as well as the opening round. :hat
