Don't get me started on linearity 'ears!

Otherwise I might have to go all Tokyo Douglas / ESB Liston / Jimmy Young on yo' ass!

Haha yeah you're right mate he was fully deserving right through his reign. In fact he was so premiere the Martinez fight was seen as an easy cherry pick at the time (remember the famous "Martinez will leave the ring on a stretcher" thread )

Shannon Briggs on the other hand, by the blood and stomach pills, his claim angers me somewhat.

Amir Khan maybe? Or is he counted as 'world class' being an olympic silver medalist and former world champion and all..?

Andre Berto making over a million to fight Freddy Hernandez pretty much ends this thread.

Tommy Morrison I guess just makes it to the world class ranks based on beating foreman....but even that is only a so so win.

I agree with this. Not sure who the "haters" are though.

He was world champion, so it's not a good example. He was easily as good as the champion that came before him (Willard), and arguably as good as any of the HW champions that came before him.

But, yes, he was well-marketed and well-promoted. Made larger than life and pulled in millions. He was a damned exciting fighter.
I think Clay/Ali is an even better example of that kind of thing, the ballyhoo and marketing. And Tyson certainly.
Although obviously Dempsey and Tex Rickard-promotion was groundbreaking in its time.

Jim Braddock made a lot of money when he signed a sweet deal to defend his title against Louis.
I think he was entitled to 10% of anything Mike Jacobs made off of heavyweight title over the next 10 years.
